Junior Senior Research Assistant in a CSTUP-Funded Research Project

Applications are invited for the post of a Junior Research Assistant (JRA), who will be later promoted to a Senior Research Assistant (SRA), for a duration of three years in a research project entitled “META: Emergent Exotic Topological Phases”. The project is funded by the Council of Science & Technology, U.P. (CSTUP), and will be carried out under the supervision of the principal investigator (PI) Dr. Hab. Ipsita Mandal. Eligible and interested candidates are invited to send their applications with a detailed CV, including the academic qualifications along with the percentage of marks (starting from the 10th standard) and the email IDs of at least two referees, to Dr. Hab. The scanned copies of the relevant mark sheets/transcripts/certificates and a recent passport-size photograph should be attached to the application. Project Synopsis
META comprises two complementary frontiers with the following objectives:
(1) Quantized response from transport measurements in nodal-point semimetals: This involves
characterizing topological order via transport properties, which can capture the topological numbers of
the given phases.
(2) Topological phenomena in dissipative systems represented by non-Hermitian Hamiltonians.
Nature of work
The research is in the broad area of theoretical condensed matter physics. JRA/SRA will survey the literature in the first phase, preparing him/her for the research task. In the remaining phase, s/he will perform the theoretical calculations for the specific projects outlined in the grant proposal.
Objectives
Pick up the theoretical tools to carry out the calculations.
Complete the calculations for the allotted topics.
Communicate the research results in scientific peer-reviewed journals.
Eligibility

• The candidate should have a B.sc./M.Sc./B.Tech./MBBS/BDS degree with First Division.
• The candidate should be a resident of Uttar Pradesh, according to the rules laid out by CSTUP.
• The candidate should be below 28 years old on 01.04.2024.

Duration of the Project
Three years. The start date is flexible and can be decided after discussion with the selected candidate.
Fellowship
The stipend amount is INR 25,000 per month during the first two years and INR 28,000 per month during the third year. The candidate has the opportunity to appear in the department’s next Ph D intake exam, the qualification that leads to the candidate being absorbed into the Physics Ph D program with the stipend increased to match that level. Besides, the department can avail computational facilities that include a high-performance IBM cluster (“Magus”) having 60-node and 992-cores along with two nodes with GPU processors, delivering a theoretical peak performance of ~30TF. Physics faculty, students and research scholars have full and unlimited access to this facility for their computational research. Also, the department has its own computational laboratory where 10 high-performance workstations and 20 high-end desktops are available for conducting teaching and research.
