Job Summary

The role is Archivist for Sligo County Council. The main purpose of the role is to assist Sligo County Council in developing and maintaining an Archival Management System for the organisation to adhere to the Council’s obligations under Archives legislation and to support both FOI and GDPR provisions. The Archivist will lead the process of archiving relevant data within the Library Service and all other Departments within Sligo County Council.

The principal duties of the post may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Setting in place mechanisms, including I.T. systems for the tasks of properly retaining, cataloguing, managing, preserving and restoring the archives of Sligo County Council.

• Setting in place arrangements for public access to the archives.

• Managing the records, including non-archival records, and archives of Sligo County Council in accordance with the records management policy set out by the Council.

• Preparation, in collaboration with other officials of Sligo County Council, an Archival Management System, including an annual Archives Action Plan. The Plan will set out in detail the extent of work required, the sequence of operations, the timing of different elements, the resources required and related matters.

• Assisting with the establishment of the archival storage facilities.

• In particular, the duties of the office shall include measures necessary to ensure that Sligo County Council complies with Section 65 of the Local Government Act, 1994.

• Provision of training in archival systems, where required, to other Council employees.
