Job Purpose
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Construction Buyer to join our procurement team. The successful candidate will assist in sourcing and purchasing materials, equipment, and services required for construction projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in construction procurement, working closely with suppliers and site teams to ensure that materials are delivered on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Assist in sourcing and purchasing building materials, plant equipment, and services for various construction projects.
- Support the procurement team in negotiating with suppliers to secure the best prices and delivery terms.
- Place orders for materials and equipment, ensuring accurate quantities and specifications are met.
- Monitor deliveries to construction sites, tracking orders to ensure timely arrival and resolving any delivery issues that may arise.
- Maintain and update procurement records, including purchase orders, supplier details, and pricing information.
- Liaise with site managers and project teams to understand material requirements and ensure they are met.
- Conduct research on new suppliers, products, and market trends to support cost-effective purchasing decisions.
- Assist in managing supplier relationships, resolving any disputes or issues, and ensuring continued collaboration.
- Support the team in maintaining procurement budgets and cost control measures.
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies and relevant regulations.
Key Skills & Competencies

- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify issues on-site and provide effective solutions.
- Organisational Skills: Strong planning and organizational abilities, capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, and the use of surveying equipment.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including subcontractors, engineers, and project managers.
- Adaptability: Flexible approach to work, capable of adjusting to project demands and challenges.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience in procurement, buying, or supply chain management (preferably in construction).
- Knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and suppliers.
- Familiarity with procurement software or systems.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and any relevant procurement software.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- A proactive and resourceful approach to problem-solving.
- Basic understanding of construction materials and processes (desirable but not essential).
- A full clean driving license (if applicable for site visits).
