Officer, Inclusive Tourism

  • The specified purpose of this contract is to cover a maternity leave
Location: Dublin, Cork, Killarney
Salary: €55,693 - €79,643* per annum
  • This role will be filled in line with Public Pay Policy at Point 1 of the relevant Salary Scale unless the successful candidate is appointed from an existing public sector role
Job Purpose
This role sits within the Sector Development Directorate in Fáilte Ireland and plays a central role in supporting the industry in embedding and enhancing accessible and inclusive tourism principles across their businesses.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Manager of Inclusive Tourism to implement Fáilte Ireland’s Inclusive Tourism plans, providing guidance and practical solutions to support the industry.
The officer will lead the operational delivery of key elements of the Inclusive Tourism plan working with wider Fáilte Ireland teams to ensure the growth and development of a tourism sector that is accessible and inclusive to all.
Job Description
Primary Objectives/Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support the Manager of Inclusive Tourism in the successful delivery of Fáilte Ireland’s Inclusive Tourism plans to influence and shape the future of inclusive tourism in Ireland.
Working with both internal and external stakeholders, the post holder will support positive change across Ireland to enhance equality of opportunity and experience across the Irish Tourism Sector.
The core objectives include:
  • Driving change through knowledge and in-depth insights on current trends and gaps in inclusive tourism across Ireland.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of a medium to long term plan for Fáilte Ireland to influence and support an Irish tourism sector that is inclusive to all and to ensure tourist destinations, products and services are accessible.
  • Supporting the tourism sector to develop employee skills and capability in the area of inclusive tourism.
  • Working with targeted destinations to drive a holistic approach to inclusivity and supporting the development of actionable plans to make the destination more accessible for all.
  • Implementing and managing agreed projects specific to enhancing accessible and inclusive tourism across Ireland.
Stakeholder Management
  • Develop and maintain excellent internal and external stakeholder relationships to achieve the organisation’s objectives.
  • Central to this role will be collaborations and innovation with internal stakeholders as well as industry and other key external stakeholders to address a shared vision on accessible and inclusive tourism for Ireland.
Project Management
  • Lead and manage assigned projects to meet predetermined objectives.
  • Report on project progress to plan, delivery of objectives and impact delivered.
  • Work with cross-functional resources to deliver agreed projects and KPIs.
Governance & Reporting
  • Comply with all aspects of organisation policy.
  • Support the review of all aspects of plans, ensuring all issues are being appropriately addressed.
  • Submit status updates on time and brief the Inclusive Tourism Manager and Director of Industry Development on key issues as required.
  • Manage the effective planning and spending of assigned budgets and ensure compliance with spending policy and procedures are adhered to including public procurement regulations.
  • Ensure that expenditure is tightly controlled and operated within agreed budget.
  • Be an active member of the Inclusive Tourism team.
Carry out all other duties as required and participate as a full member of the Sector Development Team by supporting different work projects, as required, from time to time.


The flexibility to travel domestically, and on occasion internationally is an element of this role.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
  • An understanding of accessibility and inclusivity with clear impact and evidence of driving change.
  • Knowledge of the impact of legislation on consumer needs.
  • Ability to communicate complex inclusivity requirements to stakeholders in a way that is commercially compelling.
  • Evidence of strong organisational and time management/planning skills and the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
In order to be eligible to apply for this role you must have / demonstrate in your application form the following:
  • Minimum of three years’ relevant experience
  • Stakeholder management experience and strong relationship management with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Project management experience in the area of inclusion that delivered positive impact.
  • Strong IT skills, including team collaboration tools, Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.
Qualifications/Mandatory Training
  • A Professional Qualification (minimum Level 6 under the QQI Framework) in a related discipline is essential.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience within the Tourism industry and experience in developing inclusive products and supports as it relates to tourism.
  • Demonstrate experience identifying accessibility issues and working with key stakeholders to develop resolution.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of highly effective inclusive programs that are aligned to business strategy and growth.
