• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
• Experience leading the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
• Experience in professional, non-internship software development
• Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
• 7+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

Cloud Watch is an observability service built for developers, system operators, site reliability engineers (SRE), and IT managers. Cloud Watch collects monitoring and operational data in the form of logs, metrics, and events, providing a unified view of AWS resources, applications and services that run on AWS, and on-premises servers. Customers use Cloud Watch to set high resolution alarms, visualize logs and metrics side by side, take automated actions, troubleshoot issues, and discover insights to optimize their applications, and ensure they are running smoothly. The Cloud Watch team in Dublin is growing and we are looking for exceptional senior software development engineers to create the next generation Cloud Watch experience.

Cloud Watch is part of AWS Utility Computing (UC) that provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. Within AWS UC, Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) roles engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Key job responsibilities
As a Senior Software Development Engineer for the Cloud Watch organisation, you will be responsible for:

• Advising management stakeholders on technical approach during difficult situations
• Work in an agile team to build and maintain highly available and massively scaled systems used by millions of users world wide
• Translate business problems into software solutions that are highly available and scale to millions of customers
• Break down complex projects into tasks that can be delivered by your team with your guidance and support
• Dive deep on operational issues to understand root cause and apply fixes to avoid repetition of events
• Mentor junior engineers and new joiners and act as force multiplier for the team

On-Call Responsibility
This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week every two months. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
• Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Experience working on complex distributed systems that run on production with high load
