To assess the suitability of waste streams for recovery as secondary liquid fuel and to facilitate the transport of waste to appropriate treatment facilities. The assessment of waste for recovery as a fuel involves determining the hazards and reactivity of the waste components and the interpretation of laboratory analysis. Facilitating the transport of waste to an appropriate treatment facility involves classifying waste according to local and European legislation and providing guidance on waste packaging, segregation and any other legal requirements to the waste producer.
To ensure waste shipments are carried out in compliance with the appropriate legislation. To advise both internal and external customers on issues relating to classification, segregation, packaging, transport of waste and any other compliance related queries. To determine the required PPE for tasks involving chemical handling or potential chemical exposure and assist in chemical risk assessments related to handling and repacking of waste.
Role & Responsbilities
- Planning and approving bulk and packaged material through the Secondary Recovered Fuel to ensure a safe operation of the plant and a consistent blend to the final waste treatment centre.
- Timely (ref: SLA) and correct (RFT%) turnaround of classification requests to facilitate compliant waste shipments
- Make waste available (RFT%) on SAP in line with SLA target to facilitate waste shipments
- Assignment of PPE for chemical handling tasks
- Contribute to projects and ensure project timelines agreed with Tech are met
- Assess the hazards of chemical agents in the workplace for operations, TWM and production teams
- Assess likely exposure and potential routes of entry to hazardous substances
- Assist in devising safe plans of action / method statements / risk assessments for chemical handling tasks
Experience Required
- Degree in chemistry or related field
- Understanding of analytical laboratory techniques
- DGSA qualification is desirable
- 1-2 year’s experience in the Transport of Dangerous Goods or in the waste sector is a distinct advantage
- 1-2 year’s experience in an analytical lab is a distinct advantage
- The person must display a positive and pragmatic ability to deal with problems as they arise
- They must be able to influence their colleagues and stakeholders
- SAP, Excel, LIMS experience is desirable
