Bike Mechanic

The Bike Mechanic in Tuscany will work to maintain the quality, availability, reliability, and safety of the Backroad’s bicycle fleet throughout Italy, and in international locations when needed. In this role you will provide exceptional support and service to all relevant Backroads Field Staff to contribute to our goal of providing an exceptional experience to all Backroads guests.

Key responsibilities:

Maintenance, repair, and quality assurance for all bikes stored at 801 Italy.
Communication & planning with European bike operations for relevant unit loads passing through Italy to either deliver or load bikes.
Roving work to maintain and repair bikes throughout Backroads Operational regions but especially within Italy.
Oversight and quality assurance of winter overhaul projects being completed at 801 Italy
Working with 801 Italy Ops Manager to budget, purchase and inventory bike parts and bike repair supplies for 801 Italy.
Participate in LAAPA Roving as part of the Global Bike Team.

Required Knowledge and Abilities:

Thorough and advanced knowledge of bicycle maintenance, problem solving, and industry trends, including but not limited to: SRAM AXS Ecosystem, Shimano Di2, hydraulic brake maintenance including bleeding, wheel repair & truing, and E-bike maintenance and repair, especially Bosch assist systems.
Bike Shop experience (2 years or equivalent).
Availability, willingness, and eagerness to travel for work, up to 8 weeks at a time, 2-3 times a year, including international travel.
Native or fluent Italian language is required.
Native or fluent English language is required
Basic French language skills are a plus.
Basic computer skills, and familiarity with Microsoft Office
Prior experience working at Backroads in a field staff role is strongly preferred.
Proactive, forward-thinking, and personable, with the ability to collaborate effectively and build positive relationships across diverse teams.
Motivated to share expertise and enthusiasm for biking, with a passion for supporting company growth and participating in our outgoing company culture.

Additional Details:

This is a full-time year-round role based at 801 Italy in San Giovanni Valdarno.
This employee will report to the Global Operations Manager - Bikes.
