Reports To: Program Director, Director of Community Based Programs & Director of Operations
Pay Range: $58,500 to $63,000 annually (*based on city, state and/ or federal contractual obligations and budgetary allowances):

POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Program Director will work directly under the supevison of the Program Director and Director of Community Initiatives. The Assistant Program Director will be responsible for the daily oversight of program and facility operations in addition to staff supervision. The Assistant Program Director should be familiar with a wide variety of social services and available community resources, with a passion for community outreach, strong attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. In addition to the requirements set forth as listed below. The Assistant Program Director must have the ability to develop and maintain relationships with staff members, participants, parents and the community. This position requires the ability to work flexible hours that include some evenings and weekends.PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
  • Maintain participant and staff files and records in accordance with DYCD, DOH and UAU policies
  • Data entry
  • In the absence of the Program Director, assume the responsibilities to supervise participants and staff
  • Assist with participant arrival and dismissal
  • Communication with participants and families as required
  • Model, enforce, teach and develop age appropriate social, physical and emotional behaviors
  • Employ positive behavior management strategies for disruptive and negative behaviors
  • Demonstrate positive leadership and act as a positive role model to participants
  • Participate in ongoing professional development
  • Abide by all safety protocols as outlined by Department of Health/OCFS, DYCD and UAU
  • Assist with creation and implementation of plan delivery of the overall program and its activities in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Assist with overseeing program staff, program operations, services, and the implementation of programs and/other processes (e.g. site rules, discipline, site schedule, space requirements, etc.) for the purpose of providing services within established time frames and in compliance with related requirements as per the directives of the Program Director and Director of Community Initiatives.
  • Participate and assist as needed in organizing meetings, workshops, seminars, (staff training, parent meetings, etc.) for the purpose of identifying issues, gaining knowledge, providing information, and/or supporting site staff.
  • Assist to ensure the daily workflow of the department is handled efficiently and effectively.
  • Assist with supervision of re-training for existing staff as needed.
  • Ensures that all policies and procedures are following all appropriate legal requirements.
  • Create and oversee staff schedules, assignments, and timesheets.
  • Assit with the development collaborative relations with the school staff, administration, and community members
  • Assist with the development and maintain open communication with parents, school administration, and the organization
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Required Education Qualifications: Associate Degree or higher in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or related field is MUST candidates that do not have the education requirements will not be considered OR in lieu of the aforementioned educational requirements the Assistant Program Director must successfully complete the required New York State School-Age Care (SAC Credentials) within 18 months of starting the position as Assistant Program Director.
  • 1+ years of direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age.
  • 1+ years in a supervisory capacity in a childcare program or related field of work.
  • Obtain and maintain all security clearance requirements throughout the duration of employment.
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based perspective.
  • Must be culturally competent - the ability to understand, be sensitive to the needs of, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across all cultures.
  • Familiar with the regulations and requirements for DYCD and NY State Departments of Health and aware of the compliance requirements as enacted by Federal, State and local jurisdictions.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent employee rapport and community leadership.
  • Proficient writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer usage, i.e., Windows, Microsoft Suite, Google Apps (drive, sheets, docs) etc..
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and complete work independently.
  • Willing to take initiative and be flexible when needed.
  • Excels working in a collaborative environment to achieve target objects and outcomes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

  • Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need.
  • Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.
  • Position is in a well-lighted office environment.
  • Involves sitting approximately 10% of the day, walking or standing the remainder.
  • May include travel to a variety of locations, based on programming needs. Which is reimbursed in accordance with UAU’s fiscal policies and procedures. Also requires a reliable mode of transportation.
  • May include working prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • The ability to observe details at close range (withing a few feet or more of the observer).
