Business Unit Head, Licensing & Marketing

Overall Responsibilities
The Senior Manager (BUH) plays a pivotal role in working together with the Senior Vice President to achieve the goals and objectives set by the Company. The BUH will be tasked with transforming our business unit to unlock further growth in a buoyant part of our business, leading our relationship with both upstream and downstream partners, and identifying growth opportunities using the franchise/consumer insights/market intelligence data led approach.
Through effective planning and budgeting, the BUH will strive to achieve the quarterly/annual revenue target. The BUH, together with the Licensing Sales and Marketing team will devise sales strategies and techniques to reach out to potential clients, thereafter, turning the leads into business deals.
The BUH will also take charge of the following:
  • Manage the annual operating plan and quarterly forecasting process, developing licensee objectives and initiatives to drive growth, working with franchise, marketing, product development and finance.
  • Working closely with internal teams to develop and deliver a sustainable and commercially minded strategy for various franchise across all levels of distribution channels including ecommerce platforms, with the intent to encourage new paths to purchase, enhancing consumer product brand proposition and positioning.
  • Support SVP in shaping Malaysia business strategy and 3 - 5 years plan for growth.
Main Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
  • Direct sales responsibility inclusive of quarterly targets, due diligence obligations related to thorough knowledge of product and prospective clients.
  • Perform all sales planning & reporting functions inclusive of pipeline building, gap analyses, forecasting as required by Licensors, market/brand/category reports evaluating sales environment and prospects, projections related to existing or new businesses, evaluation of new opportunities and/or brand extensions.
  • Having a core focus on driving the growth of the consumer products business, driven through working closely with licensees and through developing new and innovative flexible business models.
  • Work closely with the regional teams – franchise/marketing and creative to support the launch of Licensed Products including the marketing/digital aspects.
Client Management and Service
  • Management of clients inclusive of ensuring full compliance on Licensors’ policies, procedures, guidelines and supporting licensees in fulfilling obligations and maximizing performance.
  • Actively manage and cultivate the relationship engagement, partnership and joint business planning. Conduct business review meetings quarterly to ensure product development, product penetration to all distribution channels, advertising and promotion plans are rolled out as per contractual obligations.
Franchise Marketing and Retail Visibility, Expand Dist Channels, Ecommerce
  • Work closely with PLS regional marketing team to cultivate and direct key retail accounts on behalf of Licensor and its partners, working closely with all stakeholders to build appropriate retail relationships and secure prominent product placement at retail.
  • Work with regional marketing team and partners to devise a meaningful marketing calendar to promote the licensed products as well use appropriate and approved marketing collaterals to support products at retail.
  • Work closely with internal teams to develop and deliver a sustainable and commercially minded strategy for various franchise across all levels of distribution channels including ecommerce platforms, with the intent to encourage new paths to purchase, enhancing consumer product brand proposition and positioning.
Account Receivables
  • Work with regional Finance team to ensure that licensees remit the License Fee and submit monthly/quarterly royalty report on time
Qualifications
  • University degree in relevant field or extensive professional experience
  • 6 – 8 years in sales or marketing and related brand management responsibilities
  • Commercially minded, analytical, ability to interpret/manage targets and communicate results
  • Cultural sensitivity with strong influencing skills with the ability to achieve buy-in at all levels
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to lead a virtual team across different lines of business and business models translating the vision into goals, objectives and deliverables
  • Ability to develop and manage relationships both internally and externally at all levels and across divisions
  • Extensive knowledge of brands, retail industry trends including channels, ecommerce, customers, promotion and product
