Postdoc - decision-support systems for precision care in Hematology-Oncology

We are offering a 2-year post-doc position to develop an automated decision support system based on machine learning of PET/CT images to assist doctors and patients to predict the effectiveness of CAR-T cell therapy.

CAR-T cell therapy is a relatively new type of therapy that yields spectacular results in patients with blood cancer, but it is also expensive, and it does not always succeed. Your goal will be to create, validate and fine-tune a fully automated decision support system that utilizes PET/CT images and clinical data to predict treatment outcome beforehand. This system will provide doctors and patients with advice for the best treatment option. Advanced Artificial Intelligence techniques will be applied to integrate multi-modal data, and Explainable Artificial Intelligence to provide insight into the reasoning of the system.
The project is funded by a grant from the Oncode Accelerator groeifonds program and is a collaboration between the Image Sciences Institute, Radiology, Nuclear medicine, and Hematology-Oncology departments of the UMC Utrecht, as well as other hospitals in the Netherlands.

This research will be conducted at the Image Sciences Institute, housed within the Imaging and Oncology Division of the University Medical Center Utrecht. The division is internationally recognized for its research on image acquisition, image analysis, artificial intelligence, and image-guided interventions, and has one of the largest concentrations of medical imaging researchers in Europe. You will work alongside staff from medical-image analysis, radiologists, hematologists, and a team of Ph D students.

Dit neem je mee

You hold a Ph D degree in biomedical image sciences, medical imaging, (bio-)medical engineering, physics, or a related discipline within the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) domain, with experience in (medical) image processing, machine learning and coding, preferably in Python.
Knowledge of pattern recognition and multivariable statistics is an asset.
You are an innovative person with a multidisciplinary mindset, who is drawn to thinking beyond traditional boundaries.
You like to contribute to solving socio-economic challenges arising from the rapidly escalating costs of health care driven by innovative therapies.

Dit bieden we jou

A salary between € 3493 and € 5504 gross per month (salary scale 10), based on full-time employment (36 hours).
Year-end bonus of 8.3% and holiday allowance of 8%.
Pension insurance with ABP. We take care of approximately 70% of the monthly contribution.
100% public transport reimbursement. Are you coming on foot, by bike or by car? You will then receive a reimbursement of € 0.18 per km (by car up to a max. of 40 km one way).
Possibilities to develop yourself personally and professionally.
The option to select additional employment benefits in exchange for gross salary, such as purchasing a bicycle and memberships.
