Transpower

Asset Data Product Owner

Wellington

FULL TIME

August 25, 2024

Transpower's core purpose is to empower New Zealand's energy future; a future that supports a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable, secure electricity system. Our transmission network includes over 12,000 km of transmission lines, 25,000 transmission towers, and 170 substations—assets valued at over $5 billion, which directly benefit Aotearoa.
To support this future and manage our asset fleet effectively, quality data is essential for making timely, fact-based decision-making.
About the team
Our Grid Development division supports and identifies future grid needs over the next 30 years to ensure our assets' health and performance are maintained. This work is crucial for supporting planned or potential investments in generation.
The Asset & System Information team, within Grid Development, leads all aspects of our core asset management system, Maximo, ensuring it meets evolving business needs by collaborating across the organisation and with the Information Services and Technology division.
About the opportunity
Based in Wellington, this role involves designing the information structure for storing and accessing essential data on the capability and condition of national grid assets.
Effective management of Asset Data will be your priority, ensuring its value is recognised across the business and that regulatory commitments are met.
You'll provide technical leadership by:
  • Leading the specification, management, and governance of Asset Data.
  • Representing the business in the delivery of Data products and Maximo data structures.
  • Establishing and maintaining an understanding of Asset Data needs, including scope, content, context, quality, costs, value, and performance.
  • Defining quality and completeness requirements for asset data.
  • Developing Asset Data plans and budgets and supporting implementation.
As Transpower grows its fleet of transmission assets to meet customer demand, our data set expands accordingly. Over the next 12-18 months, you will play a pivotal role in improving our asset data quality - work that spans the lifecycle of all Transpower assets and requires significant collaboration with teams and individuals across the business.
About you
You bring a passion for data and a dedication to helping people get value from it. Detail-oriented and an excellent communicator, you excel in needs assessment, with the ability to establish and maintain an understanding of Asset Data product needs.
Your collaborative approach, combined with strong analytical thinking, will enable you to bring together the right people at the right time to develop product implementation plans and then help drive implementation with your technical skills and experience.
To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:
  • A broad understanding of the value and usage of Asset Data
  • Asset Data Management, including a systematic approach to understanding data needs in maintaining, upgrading, and operating physical assets cost-effectively, combining contextual asset knowledge with sound data management practices
  • Information Architecture; designing efficient, understandable data structures for storing and querying asset information
  • Analytical and reporting skills
  • Systems thinking; you understand end-to-end systems involving people, processes, data, tools, and technology
