Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
We have a permanent, part-time opportunity available to join our regional team as Community and Whānau Wellbeing Team Leader, Public Health Nursing
The primary purpose of this role is to provide leadership to the Public Health Nursing (PHN) team informed by clinical expertise, and knowledge of population health models, theory and principles.
In conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team this role leads a collaborative, interdisciplinary team dedicated to improving, promoting and protecting public health.
The role is an integral part of the senior nursing team, contributing to and supporting programmes of transformational change and service integration.
This role is based in Porirua.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- A relevant graduate and post-graduate qualification or be working towards one
- New Zealand Registered Nurse with current Annual Practising Certificate
- A current New Zealand drivers' licence
- At least one years' postgraduate nursing experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the areas of public health nursing, primary care and/or community nursing
- Emergency Management/CIMS training and experience
- Authorised vaccinator (training can be provided)
- Achieved competent level of practice on the RN Professional Development and Recognition Programme and commitment to maintenance and progression through the programme
- Able to think, plan and act strategically and to connect with and inspire people to build a highly motivated and engaged workforce
- Demonstrated mature communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to write and present in a clear, persuasive, and impactful way, to influence others to embrace change, and to develop, unify and maintain strong internal and external relationships essential for achieving sustainable outcomes
- A commitment to being a good Te Tiriti partner in all your actions. This includes an understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the ability to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in this role
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
