  • Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital
  • Full-time, 80 hours per fortnight (1.0 FTE)
  • Fixed Term Endoscopy Fellow, 6-12 months, either Surgical or Gastroenterology

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we’re building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role
We are seeking a suitably qualified Fellow, who has either qualified or has fulfilled the qualification requirements, for General Surgical FRACS or Gastroenterology FRACP, to join our team for a 6-12 month period.

You will have completed the Recognition of Training with the Conjoint Committee for gastroscopy and colonoscopy. This fellowship will be primarily focused on endoscopy, joining our dedicated endoscopic team and gain additional experience in endoscopic procedures.

The successful candidate will also undertake care in the outpatient clinics and acute call rosters, either in Gastroenterology or General Surgery as per vocational training.

About the Team/Service/ Location
The General Surgical and Gastroenterology teams work together to deliver gastrointestinal endoscopic services to the Hawke’s Bay population and are part of a close knit and supportive medical community. Our teams are committed to providing a high quality of care to the Hawke’s Bay population.

There is a strong collegial attitude, supportive teamwork and active commitments to ongoing education and service improvements. The endoscopy facilities are housed in a bespoke building which was constructed in 2018 to time in with the start of the National Bowel Screening Program roll-out.

We have no doubt that you’ll love everything Hawke’s Bay has to offer; an environment and work/life balance that is second to none. Situated on the east coast of the North Island, you’ll enjoy the stunning climate as one of the sunniest places in New Zealand, beaches, a wide range of sporting and leisure opportunities; art, wine, food and culture. This is your chance to make the most of a fantastic period of time after you finish your registrar training. Take a stroll through the Hawke’s Bay Tourism website and get yourself to Hawke’s Bay!

About you
  • You must be registered, or eligible for registration, with the New Zealand Medical Council as a Specialist General Surgeon and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, or Gastroenterologist and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, or the equivalent.
  • You should hold an approved higher qualification in Surgery or Gastroenterology, enabling Vocational Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
