He angitūtanga: The opportunity
We are currently seeking a Civil or Environmental engineering graduate to join our Design Office team as part of the 2-year graduate programme.
As the largest team of stormwater specialists in New Zealand, the Healthy Waters and Flood Resilience department offers a unique opportunity to advance your career in stormwater management while gaining valuable experience in the Local Government sector. In your role as a Design Engineering Graduate in the Design Office, you will become an integral member of a select team of highly skilled stormwater engineers dedicated to implementing and shaping industry best practices across Tāmaki Makaurau.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to witness your designs evolve from concept to real-world implementation, as you work through both the design and construction supervision phases. Our portfolio of work encompasses a wide range of stormwater projects, including network improvements, blue/green infrastructure, flood mitigation, stormwater quality treatment, and urban stream restoration. Given our substantial forward works programme, we can customise projects to expedite your career growth and equip you with the relevant experience needed to attain Chartership.

Your daily responsibilities may include:

  • Leading and delivering your own design projects with support and guidance from our senior engineers.
  • Site investigations and development of stormwater solutions to support the operations team and other Council departments.
  • Overseeing the construction of stormwater projects, including those you are responsible for delivering.

At the end of the programme, you’ll be supported in securing a permanent role within Auckland Council entities.

Please note this role is safety-sensitive and in line with Auckland Council policy, you will be required to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.

With over 80 areas of business and the chance to work on large-scale projects, we want to see you achieve your goals while making a real difference in the lives of Aucklanders.

As a member of the team, you’ll also be eligible for a broad range of wellbeing, sustainability and lifestyle benefits. Designed to positively support your work experience at Auckland Council. Find out more here.

The starting salary for this role is $66,000 per annum.
