We’re part of the wider Ever Commerce ecosystem and exist to simplify and empower the lives of business owners. We’ve got big goals and we’re ready to achieve them.
This is where you come in!
As a Senior Software Engineer you’ll be a core member of an agile team, delivering software updates and technical changes to our product(s) that allows our customers to thrive and us to grow as we help them focus on their passion over admin. You’ll be an expert in working out how to best solve technical and delivery challenges and help your team and our technical leadership team where possible with planning and scoping technical strategic work as well as software design and product work.
You are able to leverage your experience to work out the best way of validating solutions and getting value to customers quickly. You’ll promote our software standards and actively contribute to and improve on them where appropriate. You’ll identify where maintenance and technical debt are a problem (or going to
be!) and make sure that these are addressed in the backlog or when we do related work.
Primarily you’ll work as part of an agile team to deliver changes as prioritised by the product owner, based on the wider product, engineering or design needs.
Key Responsibilities:

- You’ll balance new feature work with bug fix work and strategic technical improvement work with guidance and help from the wider technical team
- You’ll test, deploy and monitor our software products and systems
- You’ll identify and propose opportunities for improvement and resilience in the wider Timely engineering community. You’ll evaluate and contribute constructive feedback to proposals for improvement made by other engineers.
Team player
- You’ll build a great working relationship with the other engineers in the team
- You’ll spend a significant portion of your time mentoring more junior engineers and helping them learn about good engineering and delivery practices, and to improve their technical knowledge
- You’ll default to working collaboratively with your team members using techniques like pair programming, code katas, mob programming, code sharing etc
- You’ll role model good learning habits in your team
- You’ll actively participate and encourage team introspection to find better way to work both for the team
Communication
- You’ll help the team build strong communication habits, including helping your team document key architecture or design decisions
- You’ll participate in, and where relevant contribute to, wider engineering communities of practice
- You’ll help your team communicate with stakeholders, translating architecture or complicated engineering concepts to lay person terms
- You’ll work closely with product design, product management and product engineering to ensure that we’re all working together to deliver our goals
Accountability for delivery and quality of work undertaken
- You’ll take personal pride and responsibility in the work your team commits to doing, and deliver changes that are of a high quality to our customers
- You’ll be responsible for the security and integrity of the software you deliver and work alongside our security team to ensure that best practices are followed consistently.
- You’ll call out when things aren’t going to plan and embrace failure as an opportunity to learn.
- You’ll be responsible for the testing and quality of the software you deliver and work with quality engineers to ensure test coverage is adequate and risk is acceptable.
Understanding and improving our delivery process and practices
- You’ll work in short iterations consisting of small vertical slices
- You’ll work in a way that favours experiments, learning in production and fast failure to work through details and unknowns
- You’ll advocate for and use a wide variety of techniques to enable quick delivery with reduced risk.
- You'll be familiar with, contribute to and help improve our release pipelines and monitoring tools
- You’ll be familiar with, contribute to and help improve our software development lifecycle from development through to deployment
