At Manatū Hauora – Ministry of Health we are the kaitiaki of the health system, providing leadership and driving strategy and performance. We regulate the health sector and are the primary source of advice on health matters.
Mental health, addiction and suicide prevention are health system and government priorities, with the Ministry as chief advisor to the Minister for Mental Health and leading a whole-of-government approach to mental wellbeing. The Mental Health, Addiction and Suicide Prevention Group leads action across the Ministry's core functions in these areas – strategy, policy, data analysis, regulation, monitoring, and clinical and lived experience advice.
Ko ake mahi - What you'll do
The Group Manager, Clinical, Lived Experience and System Intelligence will lead and manage a group of senior clinical, lived experience, data and analysis, research, and sector intelligence roles. The Group Manager will bring these functions together into a cohesive group in order for the wider Mental Health, Addiction and Suicide Prevention Groups to have a strong evidenced-based system insights and monitoring role and to ensure robust clinical, lived experience, analytical and sector advice is informing our strategy, policy and regulatory functions.
The role will prioritise delivery of the work programme to bring coherence and coordinate input across different Groups to ensure we are effective in our leadership function and have a robust understanding of performance of the mental health, addiction and suicide prevention systems. They will work with colleagues across the directorate to deliver on the work programme that aligns to the Ministry and Minister's priorities, and with relevant Programme Directors, the Chief Clinical Advisor and other Leadership Team members to ensure workloads are appropriate and efficient.
Ko pūkenga - What you'll bring
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Advanced knowledge of the machinery of Government, risk management, and managing at the political interface.
- Demonstrated experience in the health sector.
- Strong understanding of the mental health, addiction and suicide prevention sectors including the data collection and reporting infrastructure and challenges, as well as clinical, lived experience and other sector intelligence networks.
- Ability to translate intelligence and analysis into actionable insights to inform evidence-based strategy, policy, regulation and monitoring functions.
- Significant experience in previous leadership and management roles with the ability to develop, drive and implement complex work programmes working within a matrix approach.
- Strong people management and relationship management skills.
- Lived experience of mental health and/or addiction is highly regarded.
