The High and Complex Needs (HCN) Interagency Unit works collaboratively with multiple government sectors and non-government agencies, to create plans that work towards finding positive solutions and outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi who have high and complex needs.
We coordinate intensive services around tamariki and rangatahi and their families/whānau/caregivers in a way that builds new skills that lead to a more positive future.
Close collaboration is at the heart of what an HCN Specialist does. We know that we get better results for tamariki and rangatahiwhen agencies work closely together to focus on the needs of tamariki with high and complex needs.
The HCN Specialist leads the collaboration, coordination and facilitation of the Interagency Team (IAT) to improve outcomes for the tamartiki. This role is "50% people and 50% paper" and requires someone who is highly self-motivated, organised and a great communicator with a knowledge and understanding of clinical best practice.This role requires considerable written documentation so the ability to write well is essential.
The HCN Specialist promotes positive, effective and respectful working relationships, taking the differing agency roles and responsibilities into account. They will work collaboratively with a team that includes professionals, families/whānau/caregivers, and most importantly the tamariki. Together they will develop an intensive plan that ensures services and interventions are engaged to help the tamariki make gains that will ultimately create positive changes in their lives.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring
You will need to have strong credibility and relationship management skills which will allow you to engage and influence at all levels. You'll be a high-level communicator capable of providing best practice advice, plans and reports to stakeholders and the Interagency Management Groups (IMGs).
This is a vital and highly visible position that requires a cohesive collaborative approach with expert practitioners across varied clinical backgrounds. You will need to be a strategic thinker, with the ability to break down the big picture and articulate it to different stakeholder groups. You will need to lead and influence different groups and keep them working towards a common goal, achieving the best outcomes for high and complex needs of tamariki and rangatahi. To be successful in this role you will have:
- 5+ year's senior level experience in either health, education or social services.
- Inter-agency and cross-sector experience and an understanding of the workings of government preferred.
- Professional registration preferred but not essential
- Understanding of contemporary issues and best practice
- Experience in mediation and conflict management
- Proven leadership and stakeholder engagement skills
- Knowledge of and commitment to the principles or Te Tiriti o Waitangi
