Transpower's core purpose is to empower the energy future for New Zealand; a future that delivers a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable and secure electricity system. A lifeline utility and essential service, we currently employ over 900 people nationwide (growing to ~1200), with an extended Service Provider whānau of over 3,000 who deliver the construction, maintenance, and fault response on the National Grid.
Our context
With accelerating demand for electrification to meet climate change goals, our organisation, and the service providers we work with, will continue to scale their workforce. It's critical that our vocational training pathways and the systems that support our Private Training Establishment enable the velocity of workforce growth.
The Sector Workforce Development Group, part of Transpower's People Division, is committed to defining, developing, and delivering high-quality training programmes that ensure our people, and those who work with us, possess the skills and capability to undertake their roles safely and effectively. The group also plays a key role in promoting transmission sector jobs and career pathways to support growth.
About the team
Our Learning Systems and Analytics team is dedicated to implementing and maintaining robust digital platforms and learning management systems that support the delivery of high-quality training programmes.
By providing technical support, integrating innovative learning technologies, and ensuring seamless access to educational resources, the team enhances the effectiveness and engagement of our training initiatives. This enables Transpower and its service providers to develop the necessary skills and capabilities to safely and efficiently work on our transmission assets.
About the opportunity
Providing essential support to the Learning Systems and Analytics Manager, you will manage system administration and ensure timely, accurate reporting. You will also assist the Data and Reporting Analyst with data collation as required.
Additionally, you will conduct user acceptance testing in staging and pilot environments, ensuring that all system changes are thoroughly tested and documented before deployment to Production. Your role will also involve supporting users and developing reports to enhance training effectiveness.
Varied mahi will include:
  • Systems Administration: managing and maintaining the LMS including user acceptance testing, system enhancements, and problem solving.
  • User Support: providing coaching and support to the users of our systems (Cornerstone) and Assessment Management System (Cloud Assess) including service providers, managers, and trainers.
  • Reporting: collaborating with the Data and Reporting Analyst to develop and maintain reports to track system usage, performance, and user feedback as well as assisting in gathering and collating data
Ultimately, you will have the opportunity to build lasting relationships across the sector, enjoy varied on-the- job learning, and make a meaningful impact on New Zealand's energy sector. You will ensure the seamless delivery of training systems that empower our diverse workforce to work safely and effectively on and around transmission assets.
What will you bring?
A passion for working collaboratively with internal and external teams and stakeholders to configure systems that meet diverse training needs.
You're known for your highly effective planning, organisation, and time management skills, and ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities efficiently.
Your CV and cover letter will clearly demonstrate:
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • 3+ years in Systems Administration, ideally within a learning or training environment.
  • Technical troubleshooting including effective ability to collaborate with system providers for issue resolution, ensuring minimal operational disruption.
  • Previous experience preparing reports and reviewing stakeholder feedback.
Ideally, you'll have LMS administration expertise and experience with assessment platforms, such as Cornerstone or Cloud Assess, at a 'Super User' level.
