Librarian | Kaitiaki Pukapuka - Alexander Turnbull Library | Department of Internal Affairs
Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
Do you enjoy helping people find what they need? Do you love working with information sources - books, maps, photos, websites, letters, manuscripts, databases and more? Are you comfortable explaining and describing processes and helping people find and use library collections, resources, and technology?
The National Library Te Puna Matauranga o Aotearoa has an opportunity for a fixed-term 12-month Librarian role in the Research Enquiries Team, based in the Alexander Turnbull Library.
The Alexander Turnbull Library collects, preserves, and provides access to research collections of national and Pacific significance. We're looking for a Librarian to join the Research Enquiries team.
In this role you will be working across teams in the ATL on the following activities:
- Responding to research enquiries in person, via email & telephone
- Welcoming and supporting a diverse range of researchers and visitors to the Library
- Working with staff across the Library to support digitisation and copying requests
- Participating in a culture of continuous learning and professional development
- Experience working directly with the public in a library or research environment is very important: a year or more would be the expectation.
- A tertiary degree. A focus on Aotearoa and/or Pasifika culture and/or history are desirable.
- A library qualification, or current study towards a library qualification or equivalent in archival practice, museum studies, or related field.
If that sounds like you - we'd love to hear from you.
Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team
The role sits within the National Library's Wellington-based Research Enquiries team. This is a team of 24 and the role reports to the Reading Room Services Leader. Both the team and the wider Library have a strong kaupapa of professionalism, manaakitanga, equity, and learning. We place great importance on supporting professional development, and the Library has wide range of specialist teams and activities to engage with and learn from.
We are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion. We recognise a diverse workforce contributes to better business outcomes. We are committed to creating a workplace where all employees have equal access.
Wā Mahi Ngāwari - Flexible Working
This role involves working directly with researchers and collections on a daily basis, so the opportunities for remote working are limited, however we are open to considering other flexible working opportunities.
The Library Reading Rooms are open on Saturday mornings, so you will be asked to work onsite one Saturday each month.
