Matuku Takotako: Sumner Centre is a key part of the vibrant and engaged Sumner community. The centre itself is a busy hub that houses the library, community rooms, Sumner Museum, Matuku Theatre group and the Sumner Bays Union Trust.
South Christchurch Library / Te Kete Wānanga o Wai Mōkihi sits at the heart of the community. Situated beside the Heathcote River, on the corner of Colombo Street and Hunter Terrace.
Open 7 days, both facilities offer a welcoming space for the community to study, meet friends, chat over coffee, take time out to sit and read, access information, learn and explore technology or attend programmes and events.
About the role | Ko te mahi nei
Joining our passionate, community-focused team, the role of Librarian - Community takes responsibility for:
  • Serving customers by proactively identifying their needs, and recommending library resources
  • Developing, promoting and delivering a variety of library programmes and services to our diverse communities
  • Supporting the training and development of colleagues, particularly with digital technologies
  • Assisting the leadership team to chart the team's course, and support and motivate colleagues
  • Community outreach through the development of new and existing relationships
About you | Ko Koe Tēnei
Our ideal applicant will be:
  • A library professional with (at minimum) a Level 5 Library Diploma and one years' experience of working in a library or an equivalent diploma and two years' library experience
  • Enthusiastic about promoting the value of reading, literacy and libraries
  • Committed to engaging with the local community and helping diverse groups of people access information
  • Able to work in ways that give life to biculturalism
  • Innovative and able to design, implement and promote new programmes and services, making use of emerging technologies
  • Competent with information retrieval from a variety of electronic databases and other sources
  • Collaborative and keen to help colleagues develop to their highest potential
  • Resilient and enjoy working in a high-performing and fast-changing team environment
  • Confident in engaging with rangitahi

Additional Information | Ko ētahi atu kōrero:
Hours: 37.5 - 40 hours per week.
Matuku Takotako: Sumner Centre is open 10.00am - 6.00pm weekdays, and 10.00am - 4.00pm weekends. Hours for this position will be based on a 3 week rostered rotation, and include a Saturday.
South Library is open 9.00am - 7.00pm weekdays, and 10.00am - 4.00pm weekends. This position works a Sunday - Thursday week, including one 7.15pm finish.
Position: Permanent, full-time
Location: Matuku Takotako: Sumner Centre, 14-16 Wakefield Ave, Sumner
South Library, 66 Colombo Street (corner Hunter Terrace and Colombo Street)
Salary: $62,674 - $69,638 (based on a 40 hour week)
