Christchurch City Council
Planner Level 3
Christchurch
FULL TIME
November 7, 2024
In order for us to respond to the challenge created by the development happening right now and the activity projected for the Christchurch District for years to come, our Resource Consent unit has an opportunity for Senior Planners. Join us, make a difference in our City and grow your leadership capabilities!
The city of Christchurch is diverse, vibrant and flourishing - offering a lifestyle packed with adventure and opportunity. Whether you are looking to relocate or perhaps buy your first home, Christchurch is the place to be.
About the role | Ko te mahi nei
Your work will be varied, challenging, and expose you to a wide and unique range of planning issues across the City and Banks Peninsula, including opportunities to grow expertise in specific areas. Additionally, you will provide:
- Expert planning advice to our customers, liaise with experts, and provide recommendations on notified and non-notified applications (including land use, subdivision, and notices of requirement).
- Manage complex applications, providing pre-app advice, attending hearings, and taking appeals to the Environment Court.
- Make robust decisions on resource consent applications and will act as a mentor to less experienced planners, with coaching being a core component of the role.
About you | Ko Koe Tēnei
We're looking for someone with:
- A degree in urban/regional planning, resource management or similar which is recognised by the New Zealand Planning Institute (in terms of eligibility for full membership of the Institute).
- A comprehensive working knowledge and understanding of the Resource Management Act, District Plans and the wider planning framework, and demonstrated experience in the resource consent process.
- Desire to develop your leadership skills.
- A positive customer-focused can-do attitude.
Working for the Christchurch City Council allows you to contribute directly to the community and make a positive impact on the lives of residents and visitors. You will also benefit from:
- You'll be project-managing your work with the ability to see a consent through from start to finish, including pre-app advice, hearings and court experience.
- You'll have the trust, authority and support to make decisions on applications under delegated authority.
- You'll gain exposure to a large variety of consent and development types, including complex land-use and subdivisions, from rural activities on Banks Peninsula to landmark buildings within Central Christchurch.
Through collaboration, innovation, and a strong commitment to community, the council provides an environment where one's skills and passions can shine, making it an exceptional choice for those seeking purpose and impact in their career.
