Te āhua o Te Tūranga | The nature of the position
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Pou Pūkenga to join our team and help build our capability. In this pivotal role, you will guide our organisation in fostering a deeper understanding of Māori culture, and protocols. Your expertise will help ensure that Manatū mō te Taiao meets its obligations to its Treaty partners.
As a key member of the Office of the Chief Executive leadership team you will work closely with other groups such as Business Transformation and collaborate with senior leaders to provide:
- Cultural Leadership: Enhancing our cultural capacity and capability.
- Mentorship: Guide and mentor senior leaders and managers, empowering them to build their understanding and application of Māori perspectives in their work.
- Navigating Complexity: Use your experience and judgment to tackle challenges and risks with confidence and integrity.
- Advocacy for Equity: Actively identify and challenge unconscious bias, inequity, and discrimination in our policies, encouraging a culture of inclusivity and respect.
You bring deep experience and confidence in Te Ao Māori, and you understand the nuances of applying these principles in a governmental context. You possess:
- A strong commitment to working collaboratively with leaders and providing support to them.
- Exceptional communication skills, enabling you to engage with diverse stakeholders effectively.
- The ability to inspire others and build organisational capability and understanding of Māori perspectives.
- Extensive experience in Māori cultural leadership, preferably within a governmental or organisational setting.
- A strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application.
- Proven ability to influence and mentor across various levels of an organisation.
