Mātanga Hangarau Tauwhitiwhiti l Digital Communications Specialist

FULL TIME

The opportunity
Can you capture someone's attention for 8 seconds? In today's fast-paced digital world, that's the average time you've got to work with.
If you're up for the challenge, prove it by applying for this role and showing us what you've got.
As a Communications and Engagement tīma that's the Kaupapa we love, producing fit-for-purpose content that's human, clear and accessible through all channels, making Council more relatable to our people.
And we've made great strides in recent years challenging the local government communications status quo, by embracing and navigating the fast-paced, ever-changing digital landscape.
But with your help we can do more.
This role is an exciting opportunity to lead our digital channels, telling our story through effective and engaging digital communications on the things that matter to create meaningful community kōrero.
Whether creating shorter, sharper content for community Facebook pages, You Tube Shorts, and Tik Tok or making sure our websites provide real-time, accessible information you'll be the voice capturing and holding our diverse community's attention.
To be successful in this role you'll be a meticulous content planner along with excellent technical skills ensuring effective and efficient delivery of campaigns across a range of channels.
As a team we're committed to create, connect, captivate, and be endlessly curious. We're not just about delivering information; we're about sparking kōrero, building connections, and making Council relatable and engaging.
Here, you'll have the freedom to innovate, the support to grow, and the chance to make a real impact. If you're ready to be part of a team that loves what they do and isn't afraid to challenge the norm, then we can't wait to meet you.
To set you up for success, you'll have
  • At least five years' experience working in digital communications with demonstrated success in leading digital communication and engagement projects
  • Proven experience in managing social media platforms (Facebook, Tik Tok, Instagram, Linked In, and You Tube) - organic and paid content
  • Web content production and UX
  • Ability to leverage AI in reporting and research
  • Relevant editing/design skills including Adobe Photoshop, Capcut (or other video editing software) and Illustrator
  • Highly competent in Microsoft applications including JSON, Sharepoint and Teams
  • Prior on-camera/videography experience including interviewing, script writing and voiceovers
  • Knowledge of HTML, web publishing and multimedia design
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Current driver's license.
What we offer
  • Five weeks annual leave
  • A competitive employment package - including subsidised medical insurance
  • Flexible work arrangements where you can work from our head office or remotely some of the time.
  • A pet friendly work environment
  • Sick leave from the start of employment
  • Learning and development opportunities
  • Access to wellbeing resources and workplace support
  • Assistance to relocate to the area
  • Free onsite parking.
About us
We're doing extraordinary things.
For our people. For our communities. For each other.
We're on a journey to become a District with strong and sustainable community partnerships, that embraces the diversity of the area and is bold in its vision for change.
Whether it's reuniting dog owners with their lost pups, asking communities what they think of policies, responding to community emergencies, or designing playgrounds - we're here to make a difference.
Be the change that matters.
