He Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
Keen to play a crucial role in contributing to the early detection of newborn hearing loss? Join the team as a Newborn Hearing Screening Coordinator and aid in the future language, learning and social development of New Zealand’s infants.
Newborn Hearing Screening provides a seven-day-a-week service to newborn babies at Tauranga and Whakatāne hospital and in the community (including home visits) as part of the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening and Early Intervention Program (UNHSEIP).
This role requires a special interest in providing a high level of screening to newborn inpatients and outpatients, as well as strong leadership qualities to provide daily coordination of the Newborn Hearing Screening Service within Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty. As such, you will be an ambitious individual with at least one year’s newborn hearing screening experience (using Beraphone) and proven experience in office systems for accurate reporting and data management purposes.
This role is covered by the PSA Allied Public Health, Scientific and Technical Collective Agreement. Salary range for this position is $72,074 to $86,719 (full-time equivalent).
He Korero mōu - About You
To be successful you will need excellent interpersonal skills, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work flexibly in a busy team environment whilst maintaining high standards of care.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic planner who is confident in conducting hearing screening on newborn babies; facilitating monthly newborn hearing screening team meets and training sessions; making appropriate contact with families and professionals as required; and following up on unactioned referrals. As this role involves travel between screening sites, and home visits, you must also be willing to adapt to variable situations, not only managing your time accordingly, but approaching each family setting with care and consideration. If you are passionate about community development and meticulous by nature, this could be the perfect role for you.
