Thames-Coromandel District Council
Parks and Facilities Advisor
Te Aroha West
FULL TIME
November 21, 2024
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as a Parks and Facilities Advisor! In this role you will assist with the development, review, and implementation of policies, strategies and plans related to parks and recreation. You will also work alongside other teams and provide advice to the wider organisation and the public on parks and facilities matters. Typical tasks include, researching land status and history, assessing the potential effects of proposals, interpreting legislation and policy to practical situations, engaging with the public, writing and presenting reports.
This is a fulltime (40 hours per week), permanent position based in our Te Aroha office. The salary range for this position is $76,952 to $90,531.
About you
Our ideal applicant will have a tertiary qualification. It would be preferred if the relevant qualification was in a field such as public policy, planning, amenity horticulture, environmental management or similar.
Ideally you will already know your way around policies, plans and legislation, will have excellent time management and the ability to think strategically will come naturally.
Two years work experience in local authority or government organisation is essential.
Why choose us?
There are many great things about working at MPDC. But the top ranked reason our staff give time and time again is 'the people'. We have a dynamic work environment with plenty of laughter and a great staff culture. We believe people are the key to the success of our organisation and we like to look after our own.
Some of the staff benefits we offer are:
- Flexible work arrangements and a family friendly work environment
- The ability to earn performance payments
- Extra annual leave awarded with years of service
- Long service leave
- Sick leave on commencement of employment
- Partners paid parental leave
- Discounts at council pool facilities
- Free parking
- Ongoing learning and development opportunities
- Access to wellbeing resources and workplace support
- Crediting current continuous New Zealand local government service for the purpose of annual and long service leave entitlements

A little about our district
The Matamata-Piako district has something for everyone - a stunning mountain with fantastic bushwalks on your doorstep and mineral spas to relax in after a hard day at work. There's all the benefits of living in a small town like safe communities, free parking and no traffic lights, but it's close enough to Hamilton and Tauranga to enjoy the city life. It's just over half an hour to the beach, only 90 minutes to Auckland and a couple of hours from the ski fields - why wouldn't you want to work in such a central district with so much to offer?
So what are you waiting for? Apply today!
