Wellington

FULL TIME

Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini
Success is not the work of one, but the work of many.

Te Haeata/The Opportunity
Are you motivated by driving positive change in Aotearoa New Zealand's courts and wider justice system to provide people with faster, easier access to justice? If so, we want to hear from you!
We have an Advisor (Level 2) role available in the Courts Stewardship Team, where you will work with others to resolve complex and challenging issues, and manage relationships with key stakeholders. The Courts Stewardship Team was set up in 2022 to develop, test, and implement a best practice approach to regulatory stewardship in the courts and tribunals systems, with an eye to what will also work across the Ministry's other regulatory systems. The team plays a role in capacity building to grow the Ministry's stewardship capability, connecting with the inter-agency regulatory stewardship community, and running regular Regulatory Systems Amendment Bills.

Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience
We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate:
  • Relationship skills Are you self-aware and trustworthy, with a willingness to learn from others? Can you build and maintain relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders? Do you care about helping people and have a strong sense of integrity?
  • Problem solving skills Can you think analytically and critically? Do you find complex problems interesting, and have a knack for solving them? Can you take a systems perspective, see the bigger picture and make links between different topics and areas of work?
  • Communication skills Are you an excellent communicator? Can you write clearly, in a way that simplifies complex information?
  • Advisory skills Do you ask questions to improve your understanding? Do you take initiative to go beyond the immediate task, and apply sound judgement? Do you have knowledge of machinery of Government and public policy?
A legal or courts background, or experience with regulatory stewardship or legislative processes would be an advantage but is not required.

We strive for these legal frameworks, systems and policies to benefit the people and communities they serve and to uphold and honour te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi. We support and empower each other to grow and develop, and are mindful, collaborative and curious as we go about the Unit's work to provide thought and systems leadership and develop informed policy analysis that will influence strategic choices for the future.
