The Department of Conservation is seeking applicants for the position of Ranger, Community; Kaitiaki, Āo Hāpori.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to become part of a strong, tight knit and hardworking team. You will contribute towards growing conservation in the Wairarapa District alongside our Treaty partners and the community.
The position will be focussed on:
- building relationships with community groups to empower them to undertake conservation activities
- supporting conservation community group events and DOC events such as Conservation Week
- coordinating responses to Official Information Act requests and Ministerial correspondence
- supporting the Community Senior Ranger to develop material for print and social media
- managing public queries on behalf of the Wairarapa Operations Team.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience creating impactful and long lasting relationships.
- Ability to work in a role where cultivating trust and respect is key to success.
- A passion for working with whānau, hapū and iwi and respect for te ao Māori me ngā tikanga.
- Ability to create and maintain positive working relationships across a broad range of public and private sector groups.
- Full New Zealand driver licence.
- A background in communications and/or public sector.
The Regional Operations Group is responsible for delivering conservation work on the ground through our biodiversity, recreation/historic and community engagement teams.

The salary range for this position is $60,314 – $75,603 pro-rata with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
