He angitūtanga | About the role
As our Ranger Community, you will be responsible for supporting the Department with the delivery of statutory work for the North Canterbury region. Your mahi will include:

  • Assist with the administration and monitoring of concessions and managing local relationships with permit applicants.
  • Lead the administration of permissions and Wildlife Act permits and support of local RMA processes
  • Seek wider district support to manage environmental risks of applications.
  • Undertake monitoring of current permits
  • Support whānau, hapū and iwi as treaty partners
  • Build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Provide media and communications support

If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:

  • Excellent relationship, organisational and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Time management skills, including ability to prioritise and maintain a high level of accuracy while dealing with competing demands.
  • Interest in and passion for achieving greater conservation outcomes and engaging with the community.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow processes
Desired:
  • Have a relevant tertiary qualification or experience in either statutory processing, ecology/environmental studies, or communications
  • A broad understanding of conservation legislation and management and how it contributes to New Zealand's future sustainability.
  • Be passionate about working with whānau, hapū and iwi and have respect for te ao Māori me ngā tikanga.
  • Be able to create and maintain positive working relationships across a broad range of public and private sector businesses and groups.
