Do you have a passion for preserving heritage in Aotearoa and want to play a key role in national-scale monitoring and prioritisation programs? If you're ready to apply your skills and experience in a dynamic and challenging environment, we want you on our team!
We are looking for an experienced Heritage Advisor to join us in our Hokitika office.
As a Senior Heritage Advisor, you will serve as a crucial link between regional teams and national heritage strategies, providing specialist heritage management advice to ensure alignment and integration. You'll collaborate with regional leadership to enhance our heritage capabilities and understanding, bridging the gap between local and national teams. Our work on the West Coast involves complex and challenging projects that will allow you to draw on your experience in similar environments to deliver effectively in this role.
Key responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with regional leadership to align regional work programs with national heritage and visitor strategies.
  • Act as a key liaison between regional operations and national heritage teams.
  • Strengthen the regional team's heritage knowledge and skills.
  • Lead complex projects, including planning, commissioning, and reviewing work.
  • Engage with Maori, iwi, technical experts, community members, and heritage agencies at all levels.
  • Provide specialist heritage advice for operational projects.
  • Communicate effectively through clear, concise written and oral communications.

Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and Experience
We are looking for a minimum of five years' experience in heritage conservation (ideally cultural), a relevant tertiary qualification, and proven skills in relationship management and stakeholder influence. You should have a strong track record of providing expert heritage advice, particularly in collaboration with Maori and iwi communities, and leading complex, challenging projects, especially as we navigate changing legislation and its implications for our work on the ground. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, as is your ability to work with a diverse range of passionate individuals who care deeply about the West Coast and its culturally significant heritage for both Maori and Pakeha.
If you possess some of the following, we are keen to hear from you:
  • Proven expertise in relationship management and stakeholder influence, including experience working with Maori and iwi communities.
  • Experience in delivering high-quality heritage advice and leading complex projects.
  • Strong written and oral communication abilities.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification and significant experience in heritage conservation.

The salary range for this position is $92,450 to $116,985 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory - this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
