He angitutanga | About the role
How would you like to work within the oldest and most iconic National Park and surrounding dual status world heritage area in Aotearoa? Join Te Papa Atawhai to deliver conservation outcomes amongst the Tongariro National Park and District.
The Kaitiaki, Ranger (Heritage and Visitor) is a crucial operational role within the close-knit Tongariro District Team. You will be part of a team responsible for maintaining the visitor assets (huts, tracks, structures, campgrounds) within the Tongariro District.
You will scope and manage packages of work by utilising your practical and technical skills, and your literacy and numeracy skills.
The role will include:
- Contract management, project management and coordination with budgets
- Construction, maintenance and risk management of facilities, sites and assets
- Liaising with external partners and stakeholders including community groups, Councils, iwi and the New Zealand Defence Force.

If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:
- Project management, prioritisation and coordination skills.
- Contractor management, financial management and budgeting skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship management, with ability to support and lead others.
- Familiar with good health and safety processes, plans and working safely.
- Computer literacy skills.
- Physically fit and Emotional intelligence
- Experience working with external stakeholders and iwi.
- Ability to work remotely in back-country, with overnight stays 7 - 10 nights per year.
- Full New Zealand Driver's Licence.
- Carpentry/construction/practical skills.
- Experience with relevant machinery (e.g. excavators, scrub bars, chainsaws).
- SAP experience.
- GIS skills.

The salary range for this position is $60,314 to $75,603 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
