He angitūtanga | About the role
As a Ranger Biodiversity, Heritage and Visitors, you'll be at the heart of our conservation efforts in the wider Hawkes Bay District. Based in Napier, you'll take on diverse projects that span heritage, visitors, and biodiversity functions.

Your focus will include:
  • Threatened Species Management – Protecting and nurturing our unique flora and fauna.
  • Threat Management – Tackling animal pests, controlling weeds, and maintaining essential fencing.
  • Heritage and Recreational Asset Maintenance – Ensuring our treasured sites and facilities are preserved for future generations.

We have three positions available, blending office and outdoor work with plenty of field opportunities. If you're passionate about the outdoors and thrive on variety, we want to hear from you!

Ideal candidates will have:
  • A full New Zealand Drivers Licence
  • Be physically fit
  • Experience and competence in the outdoors
  • Technology savvy; proficiency in MS Office suite, data management and reporting
  • A can-do attitude and desire to learn
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to tailor your approach to different audiences
  • A strong health and safety focus and experience leading the health and safety of others
  • Experience with working with iwi, community partners, landowners, and volunteers
  • Data collection, data analysis and record-keeping skills
Desirable:
  • Experience with technology such as GIS and GPS
  • Experience in practical conservation field delivery work (e.g. threatened species, pest plants and animals
  • Experience in building/construction, fencing, engineering or protecting heritage sites
  • Backcountry experience and navigation
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field, or equivalent experience

The Hawkes Bay District team sits within the Operations Group which is responsible for delivering conservation work on the ground through our biodiversity, recreation/historic, community engagement across the Hawkes Bay.

The salary range for this position is $60,314 to $75,603 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
