Regional System Design Advisor - Central North Island

  • Permanent position - can be based in Palmerston North, New Plymouth, Napier, Gisborne, or Wellington
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity In System Design we work with our partners and stakeholders to ensure New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) does its bit to plan, design and deliver great outcomes for our communities. The Regional System Design Advisor is crucial to this mahi.This key regionally based role is part of a national System Design team, with strong linkages into the broader organisation. This connection is essential for ensuring regional outcomes, learnings and work are strongly connected to national direction and priorities, and that the regional insights and learnings are shared back across the organisation nationally. The Regional System Design Advisor is a partnership role, where you are working side by side with local government as well as across NZTA to ensure alignment with national transport policy, providing integrated transport planning guidance, and working towards a shared a long-term vision of the transport system that will deliver on wider transport outcomes. Your mahi involves solving problems, seeking creative solutions, and tackling challenges holistically, whilst considering inter-dependencies and trade-offs, ultimately leading to the right interventions in the right place at the right time.Ko koe tēnei | About you Relationships are at the heart of this work, both internally and externally. Success means navigating challenging political environments and competing demands on our council partners. The ability to disseminate lots of information clearly and simply and communicate appropriately is a must. To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Experience in Transport Planning or broader transport system design ideally
  • Proven experience working with external and internal parties and managing effective relationships
  • Sound written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts simply
  • Strong analytical thinking skills with experience in central or local government
  • In-depth understanding of central and local government systems and cycles
  • Proven influencing and collaboration skills internally and externally across other organisations
  • Tertiary qualifications level in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
