Our client Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau Hauora are looking for a Rheumatic Fever Community Health Worker to join their team. Established in 1995, our client Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau Hauora provides a range of appropriate, accessible and sustainable health, education and social services that improves the well-being of Iwi and the wider community for all who reside within Kawerau and the Eastern Bay of Plenty region. This is a full-time, fixed-term role, of approximately 7-8 months duration to cover a period of parental leave.

He aha te tūnga | About the role
The Rheumatic Fever Community Health Worker supports supports the implementation of the rheumatic fever prevention programme to reduce the incidence of rheumatic fever in children aged 5-14 years in the Eastern Bay of Plenty (EBOP) area.

The role includes the delivery of throat swabs and basic skin assessments under the supervision of a Registered Nurse in schools around EBOP and at Te Whare Haumanu clinic.
The role also includes providing clinic reception cover when staff are away.

Key responsibilities of the role include but not limited to:
  • Provide support to the nurses with home and clinic appointments
  • Nurse-led clinic support
  • Throat swabbing
  • Conducting weekly school visits
  • Completing Kiri ora basic healthy skin assessments
  • Health care advice, promotion and education
  • Reporting
  • Provide clinic reception cover as required

Nga pūkenga me whai | The ideal candidate requirements:
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Familiarisation with the specific programme’s standard operating procedures
  • Sore throat assessment and swabbing
  • Skin assessment and infection control
  • Understanding of school systems
  • Knowledge of simple skin conditions and treatments
  • Familiarisation with Rheumatic Fever programme standard operating procedures
  • Clean full NZ Drivers Licence
  • Able to develop working relationships with whānau, internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Medtech
  • Excellent computer literacy skills, with proficiency in all Microsoft Office functions
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • High attention to detail
  • A commitment to safe work practices
  • Empathy, showing respect for clients and their whānau
  • Knowledge and awareness of tikanga Māori culture and history, and an understanding of Te Reo Māori is desirable
