Shuttlerock

Senior Engineer (Nelson HQ or remote New Zealand)

FULL TIME

August 2, 2024

Shuttlerock is a thriving company that is revolutionising the way ad-creative is briefed, produced, delivered to the world. We're on the hunt for a talented Senior Engineer who combines technical expertise with creativity and excellent communication skills. This role is perfect for someone eager to mentor and collaborate with a diverse team of developers and designers.

You will be joining a global community filled with exceptional, driven, and talented individuals. While our main office is located in the picturesque Nelson, on New Zealand's South Island, we embrace a hybrid work model with team members working remotely across New Zealand.

We are looking for creative individuals that thrive in a constantly changing, uncertain environment.
Ideally you have been working in a successful Saa S company and are ready to take the next step. You understand that simple is hard and are ready to challenge yourself in a safe and fun environment. We will enable you to own your decisions, think big and do potentially the best work of your life while having an awesome time.

What you’ll do
  • Design, build and ship increments of our platform, Shuttlerock Cloud, to deliver impactful customer facing value
  • Write testable code across a range of front and backend technologies, React/Typescript, and Golang
  • Deploy cloud native applications on our Kubernetes cluster
  • Be a technical lead within your team, mentor junior developers on their journey and be a buddy for new hires.
  • Ship working software regularly using our highly automated CI/CD pipelines and Git Ops approach using Terraform and Argo CD
  • Take the lead on our lightweight approach to high level design for our microservice architecture
  • Work with an empowered and highly agile cross-functional team to deliver high quality software and features of any size at pace and at scale.
  • Collaborate with Designers and other Software Developers of all experience levels on a daily basis.
  • Take an active interest in the business and let this knowledge help inform your day-to-day technical decisions
  • Work with your peers and technology management on improving the Shuttlerock technology-base. We are at the stage of our journey where our joint technology decisions will shape the company for years to come.
  • Collaborate with the team to make sure the Developer Experience (DX) is second to none.
  • Be trusted to get the job done the way that works for you and your team
  • Help to maintain a positive, collaborative and friendly, yet honest and productive working environment and attitude.
  • Keep an open and healthy mind.

What you’ll bring
Minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of software development experience, or 5 years with an advanced degree.
  • Experience in React, Typescript, Go Lang
  • Experience in high quality applications with one of the leading three cloud providers.
  • Ability to communicate and write in English fluently and idiomatically.
What might bring the extra edge
  • Master’s degree or further education or experience in engineering, computer science, information systems, mathematics or other technical related fields.
  • A curious eye and an appreciation and interest for the intersection of design & technology. We are a creative technology company, so curiosity and the will to think beyond the ordinary in this space would be a plus.
  • Deep experience developing high-performance, accessible and I18n standardised web applications, sites and services. Our stack is evolving around Go Lang, Typescript, React, Kubernetes and more.
  • Practical experience with cloud-native / serverless technology. We are fully on AWS.

What’s cool about working at Shuttlerock
  • Although we’ve matured from our startup days, we still run at pace and are prepared to experiment, fail and learn. Whatever the result, you’ll have great technical variety in your day-to-day and be constantly learning.
  • We know there is more to life than work and are super flexible around your life schedule and family and focus on outcomes instead of inputs.
  • Tasty coffee beans, barista grade coffee machines, free drinks, snacks and a pool table for those who work out of our Nelson office.
