Fixed term 18month contract, full time June 2026
Our role within Healthy Families NZ is to reduce health inequities by improving health outcomes for Māori and Pasifika communities, by actively supporting family-focused systems change. Join the Healthy Families South Auckland (HFSA) initiative as a Systems Innovator and help lead this vital work to reduce chronic illness in South Auckland.
This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Health and Healthy Families NZ, focused on preventing chronic diseases through nutrition, physical activity, tobacco, and alcohol interventions.
In this role, you’ll support the implementation of health-promoting frameworks within the South Auckland area. You will coordinate interventions in council and community settings, working with key partners to create supportive environments for preventive health. Your work will also focus on equity, capacity building, and systems change to reduce health inequities and enhance population health outcomes.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and coordinating health initiatives focused on nutrition, physical activity, and reducing tobacco and alcohol use across South Auckland.
- Building strategic relationships with local government, public health, and community organisations to drive collective impact.
- Supporting initiatives that build community capacity, empowering local communities to take charge of their health.
- Promoting health equity by integrating Māori health frameworks and ensuring initiatives are inclusive and culturally relevant.
- Coordinating and mobilising resources across stakeholders to create sustainable, place-based health promotion efforts.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A strong understanding of health promotion and chronic disease prevention, particularly through systems change.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships to achieve health outcomes, including collaborating with community stakeholders to influence systems-level change.
- An understanding of Māori health, social determinants of health, and health inequities affecting South Auckland populations.
- Excellent communication skills to engage diverse stakeholders and drive collective action for better health outcomes.
- Knowledge of both mātauranga Māori and western health frameworks, with a commitment to equity and social justice.
