The role
Reporting directly to the Domestic Transportation Director for ANZ, this pivotal role revolves around overseeing the New Zealand Transport operations. Its primary focus is ensuring the safe and efficient collection and transportation of materials, meticulously aligning with company standards, customer service values, and legal compliance.
Key responsibilities:
- Oversee secure transportation of various metals via dedicated employee drivers, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Manage up to 16 internal fleets and up to 20 external fleets efficiently at any given time.
- Guide the Transport Department Team to elevate customer service standards for prompt and professional services, enhancing overall satisfaction.
- Monitor and evaluate compliance to ensure transport operations align with legal requirements, including the Land Transport Act and the Health and Safety at Work Act.
- Optimize the Business Management System for operational excellence.
- Strategically manage costs in line with budgetary needs.
- Identify logistics enhancements, especially in operations and transport optimization.
- Foster an inclusive environment valuing diversity, positive employee relationships, and collaborative teamwork for collective success.
- Demonstrate effective leadership by guiding and empowering teams to achieve excellence.
- Travel within New Zealand to visit yards as needed.
Essential Criteria:
- 5+ years in transport management covering metro and rural operations.
- Highly skilled in negotiation, planning, scheduling, and time management.
- Expertise in legal compliance, including the Land Transport Act & Regulations.
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management.
- Proven leadership in managing complex teams and operations.
- Strong problem-solving skills for business-focused decisions.
- Experience within the recycling or waste industry.
