Utility Worker/Driver

The role
You’ll be assisting the team to lay network electrical cables, install high voltage equipment and remove redundant equipment. You will have the authority to identify hazards and stop unsafe work from proceeding.
You will also:

  • Perform manual labouring tasks like excavating, backfilling, equipment and cable installation
  • Effectively manage your own productivity by staying organised
  • Carry out hazard identification, underground obstructions and set up safe sites to relevant Safe Work Practices
  • Discuss worksite safety risks identified at the site with the team during daily toolbox meetings and assist with the implementation of effective controls to mitigate risks
  • Responsible for checking Northpower’s equipment to ensure it is in good working condition
  • Transport material and equipment to site in a safe manner

About you
You’ll be working on a variety of exciting projects and be someone who enjoys getting stuck in to get the job done. You’re willing to proactively support the team to undertake work activities without being told. To be successful in this role, you will also have:

  • A valid class 1 NZ driver’s licence; Class 2,4,5 would be an advantage
  • A minimum of 12 months experience in physical or labouring type role
  • Experience working in or around electricity network in NZ preferred but not essential
  • Valuable knowledge of Vector’s working requirements and installation standards
  • Experience working on the Vector network not essential but an advantage
  • Physically fit and be able to lift heavy weights up to 20Kg
  • A great work attitude and willingness to be part of a diverse team along with a strong focus to health & safety
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and communicate well and proven reliability
