Site Manager (Construction/fit-out)

Our Client is one of the top architectural, design, construction & real estate development companies located in Lagos Nigeria. They are looking to hire a Site Manager.The Site Manager will have a crucial role in overseeing and managing all aspects of construction projects, ensuring their completion safely, on time, and within budget. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience, technical expertise, and strong leadership skills to lead our site teams and deliver exceptional results.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Site Assessment and Analysis:
● Strategically plan and execute comprehensive assessments of project sites, evaluating their suitability for built environment operations.
● Analyze site conditions, potential risks, and opportunities to inform project planning and execution strategies.
Quality Management System:
● Ensure strict adherence and compliance with internal quality requirements, client expectations, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines.
● Implement robust quality assurance processes to maintain high standards of workmanship and deliverables.
Site Supervision and Coordination:
● Oversee all site operations to ensure the timely and quality delivery of project outcomes, while adhering to budgetary and schedule constraints.
● Conduct regular check-ins with site engineers to monitor their performance, provide feedback, and address any issues or challenges that arise.
● Lead and manage engagement activities for the site engineer pool, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
Health, Safety, and Incident Management:
● Develop and implement comprehensive emergency response plans to address a range of contingencies affecting work operations on site.
● Establish and enforce strict health and safety protocols to ensure a safe and reliable site environment for all personnel.
● Proactively identify and mitigate potential hazards and risks to prevent accidents or incidents.
Dispute Resolution:
● Effectively manage disputes and conflicts by implementing appropriate resolution approaches to find mutually beneficial solutions, particularly in dealings with project managers and site engineers.
● Utilize strong negotiation and mediation skills to resolve disagreements and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.
Recruitment and Resource Management:
● Lead the recruitment process for site engineers, including conducting interviews, evaluating candidates, and making hiring decisions.
● Facilitate the onboarding process for new site engineers, ensuring they receive proper training and support to excel in their roles.
● Manage the exit process for site engineers, conducting exit interviews and facilitating smooth transitions.
Tools/Resources Management:
● Oversee the procurement, allocation, and maintenance of tools and resources required for site operations, ensuring optimal utilization and cost-effectiveness.
● Implement inventory management systems to track and monitor the availability and condition of tools and resources, facilitating efficient workflow on site.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Architecture from a recognized tertiary institution. Minimum of 4 years of experience in a Site Management role within the construction industry.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and competencies:
● Technical Proficiency: A background in architecture or civil engineering is preferred, with a deep understanding of structural, and MEP drawings. Proficiency in software such as Microsoft Word/Excel Auto CAD or Revit is advantageous.
● Construction Experience: Extensive experience in general exterior construction is expected, with a strong preference for candidates with experience in interior fit-outs.
● Site Supervision and Coordination: Demonstrated ability to manage site operations, sequence tasks effectively, and ensure timely and quality project delivery.
● Project Management Skills: Experience in reading and interpreting Project Management Programs of Works, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
● Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills are essential for engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, including clients, on-site artisans, and internal technical teams. Strong writing ability is required for report writing.
● Influential Presence: Confident and assertive communication style to effectively influence stakeholders at various levels.
● Previous Experience: Proven track record of working in mid to large-size construction companies, managing multiple projects concurrently, and overseeing multiple vendors.
● Contract and Subcontract Management: High degree of familiarity with contract and subcontract documents, terms, and conditions.
● Leadership and Management Skills: Strong leadership qualities to effectively lead and manage teams on construction sites.
● Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Focus: Possess a strong focus on HSE and quality standards to ensure compliance and promote a safe working environment.
● Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to work with a keen eye for detail to uphold quality standards and ensure project success.
