About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high-quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas. The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

About the position
The Program Manager (Afghanistan) works under limited direction on complex issues to support the delivery of Australia’s aid program for people of Afghanistan. This will involve providing technical, policy and strategic advice in relation to Afghanistan and the delivery of Australia’s assistance.
Some domestic and international travel may be required to monitor the program and liaise with stakeholders.

Employment conditions
Subject to successful completion of a probationary period, satisfactory medical check and background police verification, the successful applicant will initially be offered a one-year employment contract which may be extended subject to the Australian High Commission’s requirement and agreement between the employer and the employee.
