Your role and responsibilities
The Mechanical Quality Control Technician will be responsible for inspecting, testing, and ensuring the mechanical integrity and isolation quality of our prefabricated substation. This role involves working closely with the production team to identify and resolve any mechanical issues, ensuring that all units meet the ABB’s quality standards and customer specifications. 1. Conduct thorough inspections of mechanical systems in prefabricated metal structures, including HVAC, plumbing, and structural components. 2. Perform dimensional control 3. Validate the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) , and guarantee fulfillment. 4. Instruct the suppliers on the ISO 12944 paint process to implement and perform the test to verify the fulfillment. 5. Maintain detailed records of inspections, tests, and quality control activities. Including the certification and specifications of the material used. 6. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and ABB policies. 7. Ensuring Safety: Small mechanical issues can lead to significant safety hazards. Attention to detail is required in identifying and rectifying these issues before they become serious problems. 8. Maintaining Quality Standards: High-quality standards are essential for customer satisfaction and regulatory compliance. Detailed inspections ensure that every component meets these standards (dimensional control, welding quality, painting process, material quality). 9. Preventing Costly Errors: Catching defects early in the production process can save time and money by preventing the need for extensive rework or replacements. 10. Enhancing Reliability: Detailed checks and tests ensure that mechanical systems function reliably, which is critical for the long-term performance of the buildings. 11. Supporting Continuous Improvement: By meticulously documenting findings and providing feedback, you contribute to ongoing improvements in manufacturing processes and product quality
Qualifications for the role

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Mechanical Engineering, Quality Control, or a related field. With more than 5 years of experience.
  • Proven experience in mechanical quality control, preferably in the construction or manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, and structural components
  • Familiarity with quality control tools and techniques, such as inspections, testing, and root cause analysis. (WPS, ISO 12944, dimensional control)
  • Willing to travel 80% of the time to perform inspections at production locations.
  • Crucial attention to detail
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in Technical English, written and spoken; additional languages are a plus.

Ports have many electrical consumers, such as Ship-to-Shore Cranes, Stacking Cranes, Reefer sockets, Shore Power, electric vehicles, and buildings. Within our team in Panama, we design and build electrical and automation infrastructure to provide reliable and sustainable power to our customers, enabling them to handle containers efficiently. Our scope includes Medium Voltage Substations, SCADA systems, Terminal Lighting, Reefer racks and their electrical systems, Electrical Vehicle charging infrastructure, and Grid Connection substations, among others. Our core products are prefabricated substations built in our facilities in Panama. These substations are fully tested and commissioned before they arrive at the construction site. These substations include medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, low-voltage switchgear, UPS, DC systems, SCADA, Fire Alarms, and climate control systems. Our project locations span the globe, covering the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Latin America. They typically take around 24 months to complete.
