Peru Salary - PEN 121,583

Based in Chile or Peru, the Economic Analyst, Transition Minerals - LATAM, is part of the LATAM team and plays a crucial role in achieving the objectives of the Chile program, which focuses on transition minerals. They will actively contribute to advancing analytical work on economic issues related to resource governance in LATAM. This involves taking a lead role and making substantial contributions to economic analysis and data that will inform capacity development, policy reform, and advocacy efforts in the areas of energy transition and revenue management in LATAM.
The ideal candidate should possess an understanding and experience in economic policy issues and analysis specific to LATAM. The Economic Analyst, Transition Minerals - LATAM is expected to bring technical expertise in extractives governance, economics, energy transition and revenue management. This expertise will be pivotal in generating expert analysis, conducting research, and providing essential policy advice to support NRGI's initiatives in driving reform in LATAM.
Working closely with the rest of the Chile team, particularly the Senior Program Officer, the LATAM team, the Legal and Economics team, and other relevant teams across NRGI, the jobholder will contribute to advancing research, data analysis, knowledge, and advocacy. They will play a key role in shaping and influencing government policy by providing technical assistance, offer expert opinions, policy analysis on critical program issues from the Chile program. Building strategic and productive relationships with national institutions, government leaders, development partners, civil society, including media, women, and youth groups, as well as the private sector, is also a crucial aspect of the role.
The successful candidate is expected to possess strong analytical skills, and experience in public speaking and presentations. With a background in economics and the extractives industry, they will contribute to advocacy, capacity building and technical assistance efforts by providing expertise, strategies, and interventions, and incorporating global learnings, experiences, and programs into the local context in Chile.
The Economic Analyst will support NRGI’s research agenda on transition minerals in Latin America, with an emphasis on Chile. NRGI aims to contribute to driving responsible transition mineral mining and the equitable sharing of benefits while preventing social and environmental harms. This includes working to achieve that producer countries maximize development benefits from the transition minerals sector; to promote strategic and inclusive governance that prevents social and environmental damage/harm to citizens and communities and reduces corruption risks; and the strengthening of international frameworks and standards to increase the benefits for citizens of producer countries and mitigate potential environmental impacts.

This role might be for you if have…
- Minimum 5 years’ directly relevant work experience in policy research or analysis related to mining, ideally with a focus on transition minerals
- Excellent quantitative analysis skills, including experience synthesizing data sets from multiple sources, and guiding strategic analysis and interpretation.
- Experience working with governmental and non-state actors on development policy issues in Latin America.
- Effective in multi-cultural settings
- Experience translating strategy into project and research design; ability to think conceptually and strategically within a 2–3-year horizon.
- Broad understanding of the natural resource governance sector and the complex ecosystem that results in resource-rich countries failing to achieve sustainable development.
- Experience working in a complex or pioneering environment, including supporting and developing opportunities for systemic change.
- Excellent Spanish language skills, both written and spoken; proficient in English
Education & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in economics or other related fields required. Earlier / additional degree in relevant field (e.g., public policy, finance, law, international development, or engineering) preferred.
