Job Summary:
The Truck Driver Helper is responsible for assisting the truck driver with daily delivery tasks, including loading and unloading goods, ensuring cargo is secured, and providing support during deliveries. This role involves manual labor, customer interaction, and working closely with the truck driver to ensure timely and efficient deliveries. The Truck Driver Helper plays a crucial role in ensuring that delivery operations run smoothly and that the truck driver can focus on driving and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Loading and Unloading:

• Assist in loading and unloading goods from the truck, ensuring that items are handled safely and efficiently.
• Help secure cargo to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
• Ensure that goods are placed in the correct locations at delivery sites, following customer instructions or delivery orders.

2. Delivery Assistance:

• Assist the truck driver in navigating to delivery locations by using maps, GPS, or providing directions.
• Help deliver goods to customers’ doors or designated drop-off points, sometimes involving stairs, lifts, or other obstacles.
• Provide general labor support during deliveries, including moving and carrying heavy items.

3. Customer Service:

• Interact with customers during deliveries, providing a friendly and professional service.
• Ensure that the customer receives the correct items, and assist with verifying delivery orders if necessary.
• Address any customer concerns or direct them to the truck driver for further assistance.

4. Safety and Security:

• Assist the driver with ensuring that the truck is properly secured and that all cargo is safely loaded.
• Adhere to all safety protocols when handling materials, especially heavy or fragile items.
• Monitor traffic and surroundings when the truck is reversing or parking, assisting the driver in tight or complex maneuvers.

5. Vehicle Maintenance Support:

• Assist with pre-trip and post-trip inspections, checking for any visible vehicle or cargo issues.
• Help ensure the truck is clean and well-maintained.
• Notify the driver or supervisor of any maintenance needs or issues with the truck.

6. General Assistance:

• Provide manual labor support on the job site, such as moving materials or helping with installations if required.
• Assist in organizing the truck to ensure efficient use of space and easy access to items during deliveries.
• Help maintain accurate delivery records and paperwork when necessary.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Physical stamina and strength to handle heavy lifting and prolonged periods of standing, walking, and bending.
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
• Basic communication skills for interacting with customers and the truck driver.
• Attention to detail to ensure that the correct goods are delivered in the right condition.
• Familiarity with basic safety protocols for manual labor and material handling.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a similar role or in a warehouse/delivery environment.
• Knowledge of how to secure cargo and assist with proper loading/unloading techniques.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends, if required.
