There is an open call for one (1) Research Initiation Grant (“Bolsa de Iniciação à Investigação”) at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of project Joint-Lab-RD8.

Admission Requirements:
Research Initiation Grants are intended:

for students enrolled in a professional higher technical course, undergraduate degree, integrated master's degree or master's degree, to undertake initial R&D activities, with a view to beginning their scientific training through integration in R&D projects to be developed in national institutions.

for students carrying out initial R&D activities who are enrolled in non-degree courses integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units.

Candidates must be enrolled in a higher professional technical course, a bachelor's degree, an integrated master's or a master's degree in the areas of Electrical Engineering or in Physics, with a good background on basic electronics, especially on understanding the constitution and overall behavior of active devices, like transistors or diodes. The candidate must also demonstrate a good level of English language (both in speaking and in writing). The candidates must present certificates of their current enrolment in the 1st cycle degree, and also the list of grades of the courses that they have completed.

Work Objectives:
Within the scope of a collaboration project with an international company, the detailed behavior and operation principle of high frequency transistors is being studied, with the use of physics-based simulation on a dedicated simulation software. This work involves the definition and execution of various simulations, for which the contribution of a young researcher is considered, also serving the purpose of introducing this researcher to this area of research.

Applicable legislation:
A fellowship will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT, “Regulation of Instituto de Telecomunicações’ fellowships” and “Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação”, according to Law no. 123/2019, dated August 28 (Status of Scientific Research Fellow), in its actual redaction, and also by Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P. Fellowship Regulation of Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia. Place of work:
The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações at University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Prof. Telmo Reis Cunha.

Duration:
6 months, with the possibility of renewal. This type of scholarship has a maximum duration of 1 year. Start date: November 2024 or soon thereafter.

Monthly salary:
601.12 € according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ). The payment will be made by bank transfer.

C1 (40%)
Curricular assessment
C2 (50%)
Adequacy of profile and CV to the work described in the work plan
C3 (10%)
Fluency in English speaking and writing

Candidates may be interviewed for clarification of any aspect related to the above criteria
Each criteria, and the final classification F will be evaluated in a scale (0-20). The candidates will be ordered according to:
F = C1 x 40% + C2 x 50% + C3 x 10%
In case of a tie, the tied candidates will be ordered according to C1, then C2...
The Jury has the right to not admit any of the candidates that applied for this position whenever they consider that no candidate meets the minimum requirements for the position.
