The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) was founded in Qatar in 2015 as a Doha-based independent institution of higher education. The Institute offers MA and Ph D programs in two schools: the School of Social Sciences and Humanities and the School of Economics, Administration and Public Policy. The Institute adopts a student-centred approach to learning, promotes interdisciplinary research, and uses Arabic as the primary language of instruction, with fluency in English a requirement. DI aims to graduate researchers and practitioners who can advance knowledge and better the human condition, while upholding the highest scientific, professional, and ethical standards. Brief Description of Program:
The program offers its students a diverse and integrated set of courses on Arab and Islamic history, covering methodologies for studying history and historiography, techniques for reading archival documents, as well as other aspects of research and writing in Arab and Islamic history, and modern and contemporary history.
The program seeks to cultivate a new generation of Arab researchers in the field of Arab and Islamic history by training students to diversify research sources for more accurate knowledge and emphasizing the need to open up to various Arab and foreign archives. The program's pursuit of adopting a range of local and international archives sparks student interest in relational history, enabling them to engage with modern historical schools. This equips students to write Arab history with a fresh perspective, contributing to moving beyond tradition and establishing new methodological frameworks."


Job Summary:
The History Program at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies is seeking to hire a teacher at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor specializing in the history of North Africa, with a focus on the Ottoman period and/or the colonial era. Preference will be given to those who also have knowledge of the Islamic history of North Africa. Candidates are expected to be proficient in both Arabic and English in writing and teaching, to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in historical methodologies and theories, to be able to publish in peer-reviewed journals and presses, and to supervise master's and doctoral theses.


Main Responsibilities:

• Teach two courses per term.
• Participate in the program's academic activities.
• Supervise Master's and Doctoral theses.
• Conduct research in specialized and related fields.
• Undertake administrative responsibilities and contribute to the needs of the program, school, institute, and community.
• Participate in various committees at the program, school, and institute levels.

Qualification, Experiences and Skills:
Applicants must:

• Hold a doctorate degree in the field of History
• Demonstrate a track record of research and peer-reviewed publications in their field of specialization that correspond with their academic rank.
• Possess competence and experience in teaching and supervising at the graduate level.
• Exhibit proficiency in both Arabic and English.
