For over 35 years, the Methanol Institute (MI) has served as the global trade association for the methanol industry, representing more than 100 members across the entire methanol value chain. These members include the world's leading producers, distributors, transporters, shipowners, and technology companies. Founded in 1989 in Washington DC, MI has a professional staff team across five offices worldwide, including Washington DC, Beijing, Brussels, Delhi, and Singapore. MI acts as the voice of the methanol industry, supporting traditional chemical markets for methanol and promoting its use as a clean fuel in various energy-related applications.

Position Summary:
The Methanol Institute is seeking a proactive Maritime Projects Lead to join our team in Singapore. This position is ideal for a mid-career professional with 5 years of experience in the maritime industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and implementing maritime initiatives, fostering industry relationships, and driving project success within the maritime and methanol sectors. The role requires a strong background in maritime operations, project management, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
Project Management and Implementation:
  • Lead the development and execution of maritime-related projects focused on the adoption of methanol as a clean marine fuel.
  • Develop project plans, manage timelines, allocate resources, and ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within budget.
  • Identify and mitigate risks while ensuring quality control for all deliverables.
Industry Engagement and Collaboration:
  • Foster relationships with key stakeholders across the maritime industry, including shipowners, technology providers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Actively engage with industry partners to promote methanol adoption as a marine fuel.
  • Work closely with internal teams, including business development and policy officers, to support advocacy initiatives.
  • Engage with Methanol Institute members representing the global methanol value chain, including producers, distributors, and technology companies, to align maritime initiatives with industry needs and promote the adoption of methanol as a marine fuel.
Technical Research and Support:
  • Conduct research and provide technical insights related to maritime methanol applications, including feasibility studies and techno-economic analysis.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and regulatory developments related to maritime fuels and provide timely updates to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to technical discussions with industry bodies, government agencies, and international maritime organizations.
Event and Advocacy Support:
  • Assist in organizing workshops, conferences, and webinars to promote methanol as a sustainable solution in the maritime sector.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and technical documents to support advocacy efforts at forums such as the IMO and other regulatory bodies, in close collaboration with the Brussels team.
  • Represent MI at relevant industry events, fostering networks that further the organization's strategic objectives.
Qualifications:
Education:
  • A bachelor's degree in political or social sciences, marine engineering, nautical sciences, naval architecture, or a related field.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the maritime industry, with a focus on project management, operations, or clean fuel adoption.
  • Hands-on experience with maritime project implementation, preferably involving new fuel technology or sustainability initiatives.
Skills:
  • Strong project management skills with a proven ability to oversee and deliver complex projects.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, capable of engaging stakeholders from different technical and cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong research and analytical abilities to evaluate maritime industry data and policy developments.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a dynamic team.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and familiarity with project management software.
