Job Title: Assembler – Nigel (Contract Position)

At Alstom Rolling Stock South Africa (Pty) Ltd, we strive to deliver best in class locomotives to our customer for use of freight transportation on the railway corridors of South Africa.
Alstom Rolling Stock South Africa (Pty) Ltd is looking for an Assembler for our Traxx Africa project based in Nigel.
THE PURPOSE OF THE ASSEMBLER ROLE IS TO:
Physical assembly of mechanical, structural, and electrical components to deliver end products in the form of Cubicles, Traction Converters and Cabling for the Propulsion and Controls systems of the Traxx 23E Locomotive.
THE MAIN RESPONSIBILITY WILL BE:

Alstom Rolling Stock South Africa (Pty) Ltd is looking for an Assembler for our Traxx Africa project based in Nigel.
THE PURPOSE OF THE ASSEMBLER ROLE IS TO:
Physical assembly of mechanical, structural, and electrical components to deliver end products in the form of Cubicles, Traction Converters and Cabling for the Propulsion and Controls systems of the Traxx 23E Locomotive.
THE MAIN RESPONSIBILITY WILL BE:
- Physical assembly of electrical and mechanical component to ensure delivery of the final product which could be, but not limited to, Cubicles (HVC), Traction Converters and Cables.
- Apply rules in order to operate in an environment that complies with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and methods instructional sheets in order to perform assembly activity as per required standards and processes. (All areas)
- Assemble components as per the drawing and methods instructional sheets and ensure all tasks are 100% done.
- Route, comb, twist, wrap, tie, and attach wire to terminal points, according to cubicle layout, using soldering gun and hand tools.
- Check out all completed assemblies to ensure correctness and identify any defects.
- Correct the defects if possible or alternatively report it according.
- Complete the status card at the beginning and at the completion of each task performed.
- Check the received material to ensure correctness and quantity and report any corrections to be made.
- Clean commercial products before work activity starts and after completion of the fully assembled product as per the working instruction.
- Ensure the proper and safe use of applicable tools, machinery, chemicals, and material at all time.
- Connect wiring of cables as per wiring instructions or wiring list by using the correct to tools and machinery. (Cubicles and TC)
- Specific to the cable shop - Crimp terminal eyelets and lugs to wire ends, using hand or machine crimping device.
- Conducts functional and continuity tests of electrical assemblies as per working instructions where required.
- Ensure capturing of information on Maximo list manually and transfer to electronic Maximo system where applicable.
- Ensure a quality product is delivered.
- Do regular checks on all assembly work to ensure “right first time”.
- Report any nonconformities or defects to the production manager immediately
- Ensure health and safety is always adhered to.
- Adhere and follow to all safety rules, regulations, policies and instructions at all time
- Ensure that the required PPE is worn at all time.
- Report any safety none compliance or concerns to the production manager immediately. Incase the production manager is not available, please report to Safety Rep, Safety Officer, or any other management member
- 5’s application
- Follow the 5 s principle of Sort, Simplify, Shine, Standardize, Sustain at all time within the working environment
- Perform other task assigned by the Team leader, EPU and workshop & line Manager or person of Authority.
- Assemblers could work on different areas and could be rotated between them

THE PREFERRED CANDIDATE WILL MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
- Electrical Engineering Certificate – N3 minimum
- 1-year relevant experience in a similar environment will be an advantage
- Ability to see in color
- Ability to read technical drawings
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Sound verbal communication skills in English.
