About the Role:
Casualty Senior Underwriter, reporting to me and working in close cooperation with the resto of the underwriting team in our Madrid office.
About the Department & Team:
- Underwriting Casualty business.
- Commercial activity, dealing with our brokers and clients effectively.
- Dealing with both new business and renewal submissions. Having in place the appropriate U/W Authority is required.
- Checking documents: Submissions, underlying policies, slips and loss records. Using the rating tool and all the supporting systems (e.g. Rulebook, DOT, Power BI, RFID, Peer Reviews and Underwriting Authority Governance, etc.).
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the growth of the Casualty business in our Madrid office, following Patricia´s leaving. Dealing with the underwriting tasks, such as pricing and assessing liability risks, following our risk appetite, Underwriting Guidelines and Treaty framework.
- Developing LSM market relationships with our brokers and clients. Having commercial skills and a previous broking network in the Spanish market is required for this position.
- Dealing with complex renewals (negotiating renewal terms & conditions with the brokers, assessing the exposure development, loss experience, issuing the appropriate referrals, etc.).
- As such, this headcount should be getting familiar with all our in-house tools (e.g. Rulebook, DOT, Power BI, RFID, Peer Reviews and Underwriting Authority Governance, etc.).
- Additionally, handling all the underwriting related tasks is also required, such as file completion, peer reviews and participating on the IPR as appropriate. Adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements forms part of your role, and the demonstration of behaviours as set out in the Conduct Risk Policy, as they relate to your role, is core to LSM's commitment to our Liberty Values, placing customers at the centre of our business and behaving with integrity. These requirements include the Senior Managers and Certification Regime Conduct Rules ,Solvency II, fair treatment of customers, Financial Crime, Data Protection, Conflicts of Interest, and Whistleblowing
Skills and Experience:
- Appropriate university degree or higher education qualification (Law Degree preferably) or equivalent
- Extensive Causalty underwriting experience
- Understanding of insurance contract with experience on Casualty underwriting (including large and complex risks), showing a generic understanding of other liability lines (e.g. EIL).
- Good level of communication skills.
- Ability to assume responsibility, experience of working against measurable performance targets, professional and confident approach with brokers and clients.
- Showing initiative, autonomy and proactiveness is key for this role as a Senior Underwriter.
- Organized.
- Service oriented.
- Needs to show commitment and willingness to develop his/her professional career. Fluent in Spanish and English. Ability/potential to communicate clearly and concisely in a professional manner will be required.
