The division of Conservation Biology investigates the mechanisms involved in the degradation of ecosystems and in the decline of threatened species with the aim to propose sound conservation guidance for stopping biodiversity erosion, restoring wildlife populations and reinstating functional ecological communities and key ecosystem services.
In one of our research programs we investigate the development of predator-prey relationships during the period of large carnivore recolonization in Switzerland. To this end, we have been systematically collecting camera-trap data since 2011, with the aim to identify the most important factors determining the spatial and temporal patterns in the recolonization dynamics of wolf and lynx, to quantify interactions with their prey communities, and to derive evidence-based recommendations for adapted wildlife management. To analyse this extensive dataset we are offering a postdoc position.

• Further develop the research programme, in collaboration with the project team
• Lead the synthesis analysis of the research programme and write papers for peer-reviewed outlets
• Supervise students at all levels of education, in particular BSc and MSc candidates
• Participate in teaching activities at all levels

Your profile

• Completed Ph D degree in ecology, conservation biology or a related field
• Strong experience in statistical modeling and data analysis with R
• Broad biostatistical skills and experience in diverse modelling backgrounds, e.g. spatially-explicit species

distribution models, occupancy models and spatially-explicit dynamic population models.

• Experience in remote sensing/GIS
• Knowledge of conservation concepts and theory as well as their translation into conservation policy
• Proficiency in English, both spoken and written
• Ability and willingness to write scientific papers, as evidenced by a good publication record in peer-reviewed
