Your responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to the SNSF funded project ‘Digital Trust: Understanding and addressing its impact on digital data collection in surveys’ under the direction of Dr. Caroline Roberts. The project will investigate antecedents and correlates of digital trust in Switzerland and its consequences in the context of surveys using digital data collection methods, and the effectiveness of methods designed to build trust.
Your qualifications


  • A Ph D in Survey Methodology, Social Psychology, Social Sciences, or another relevant discipline, with substantial training in statistics;
  • Relevant knowledge, a strong interest and, ideally, experience in conducting research in the field of survey methodology; specialized expertise in topics relevant to the project is an advantage;
  • Strong skills in quantitative methods and experience analysing data from surveys and survey experiments; experience of conducting large-scale surveys is an advantage;
  • Excellent command of statistical software/ programming – e.g., in R, Python, Stata, or SPSS;
  • Fluency in spoken and written English (working language); knowledge of French and/or German is an asset;
  • A good research and publication record relative to career stage;
  • A collaborative attitude and willingness to work as part of a team.
What the position offers you
  • You will work on co-authored publications with other project members (the PI, two doctoral researchers, and the Project Partners) on current methodological challenges in survey research, focusing especially on how dimensions of digital trust contribute to nonresponse in smartphone surveys, and ways to address the problem.
  • You will be expected to present preliminary findings of the project at international conferences in the field of survey methodology.
  • You will work in a dynamic, diverse, multicultural, and multidisciplinary academic setting in the UNIL’s Faculty of Social and Political Sciences and be integrated in the LIVES Interdisciplinary Centre for Life Course Research and Inequalities in the Institute of Social Sciences. You will also collaborate directly with researchers at FORS, the Swiss Centre of Expertise in the Social Sciences.
  • The main working language of the position will be English and you will expected to write scientific articles in English. Ability to work fluently in French and/or German is an asset.
