Project description

GFA’s Health department is successfully advancing the Mental Health for Ukraine (MH4U) initiative, aimed at supporting the reform of the mental health system in Ukraine. This project, backed by Switzerland’s Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), promotes the development of a comprehensive, effective mental health care system. The goal is to establish an integrated, interdepartmental approach that enhances quality of life and upholds human rights and freedoms.
During its first phase (2019–2024), MH4U earned the trust of national and regional government institutions, establishing itself as a reliable partner. In the second phase (2024–2028), we continue to collaborate with partners across key regions—Kyiv, Lviv, Rivne, Chernivtsi, and Dnipro—focusing on mental health capacity building, system development, and public awareness campaigns.

We have a vacancy for a project coordinator for the implementation of component 1 in Kyiv:
Component 1: Recovery for people with mental health issues and their engagement have been improved through enhanced quality, greater accessibility, and integration of mental health services.
Long-term strengthening of the mental health care system at the administrative level in cooperation with public mental health service providers from all sectors.
Input: Full-time (225 days per year), start as soon as possible until February 2028


In addition MH4U is looking for a project coordinator for the implementation of component 3 in Dnipro:
Component 3: Improving mental health and psychosocial support services in response to the challenges of war.
Enhancing the provision of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) during wartime, particularly for people in frontline areas, military families, and first responders. This includes proposals for local and national standards of mental health and psychosocial support, as well as direct support for families affected by the war.
Input: Full-time (225 days per year) start as soon as possible until February 2028


Job description


  • Contributing to needs assessment in technical and geographic areas assigned to them by the component leader and project management;
  • Developing instruments required for the development of activities according to quality standards and good practice;
  • Researching potentials and local adaptation of instruments, constraints and risks;
  • Finding implementing partners for local activities and jointly develop To R and budgets;
  • Coordinating implementation of activities with local stakeholders and other MH4U activities;
  • Monitoring implementation of activities against To R and project monitoring framework;
  • Providing support and guidance to local implementing partners, solve problems and flag risks;
  • Reporting progress of activity implementation to component leader and project managers in regular meetings and upon request;
  • Participating in learning cycle meetings to identify lessons learnt and improve project instruments;
  • Participating in regional coordination meetings with authorities in the area of mental health and social care.


Qualifications


  • Ukrainian citizenship with home base in the respective region (Kyiv or Dnipro);
  • Good level of spoken and written English, professional level of Ukrainian;
  • Relevant education in health, psychology, public health, social work, education or other field relevant to mental health;
  • Several years of work experience in the area of Mental Health and/or Psychosocial Support;
  • Experience in Project Management;
  • Excellent communication and networking skills;
  • A good understanding of mental health services in the respective region;
  • Interest in working independently in close coordination with an agile team with flat hierarchies and strong values.
